Education Support Specialist - Computing and Maths

  • Working with MEI colleagues you will develop resources, deliver services and coordinate activities to improve mathematics and data science education.

    Main duties and responsibilities

    Responsibilities include:

    • Contribute to the planning, development and delivery of professional development for teachers of mathematics or computer science.

    • Contribute to the planning, development and delivery of student engagement activities and assist in the development of activities to promote the continued study of maths and maths-rich subjects.

    • Contribute to the development of curricula, teaching and learning resources and online courses.

    • Monitor and measure the progress of MEI’s activities and report on achievements and impact to agreed formats and timescales.

    • Meet, liaise and communicate with other MEI staff in the development and management of MEI’s planning and its work.

    • Liaise with associates and stakeholders involved in MEI’s work, to support understanding of the services offered by MEI and promote them effectively.

    • Maintain awareness and knowledge of current developments in mathematics and data science education policy, research and practice relevant to your role.

    • Meet MEI’s requirements for safeguarding, quality management, health and safety, other legal requirements and environmental policies.

    Key Relationships

    In this role, the post-holder will establish and maintain key relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external to MEI. Internally, the post-holder will collaborate closely with their line manager to ensure alignment on project goals and MEI’s objectives. Additionally, the post-holder will work with colleagues from various strands and departments to support a range of projects and foster a collaborative working environment. Externally, the post-holder will engage with educational institutions, industry partners and professional bodies to drive project success and promote MEI’s mission. Building strong partnerships with these stakeholders is essential for the effective delivery of projects and the advancement of MEI’s strategic goals.

    Person Specification

    EssentialDesirable

    • A passion for mathematics, data science and teaching

    • Qualified Teacher Status

    • 3+ years of direct experience of teaching computer science or mathematics at the appropriate level

    • An education expert with deep subject knowledge and experience of implementing pedagogical best practice in subject and phase

    • An undergraduate degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related subject

    • Experience of at least two of the following:

      • supporting the development of computer science or mathematics teachers

      • developing curricula, teaching and learning resources

      • leading student engagement and enrichment events to inspire increased participation

    • The ability to think creatively and recognise opportunities

    • Strong IT skills including the use of technology in teaching mathematics, data science or computer science

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills

    • Good team-working skills and willingness to work as part of a team

    • The ability to inspire others

    • High levels of self-motivation and well-developed time management skills

    • Willingness to travel around the country on a regular basis with nights away from home

    • Additional teaching experience relevant to the role

    • Experience of delivering professional development for teachers of computer science or maths relevant to the role

    • Experience of delivering online teaching and/or online professional development

    • Experience of leadership and management in an education context

    • Experience of teaching in the state sector

    • Experience of computer science or mathematics enrichment or outreach work

    • Experience of using software in the development of teaching/learning resources

    Additional Information

    The interview dates will be Friday 08 May online and Thursday 14 May in person. This role will involve some travel and occasional overnight stays away from home. The role may also involve some occasional work on a Saturday. This is a fixed term contract for one year from 1st September 2026 until 31st August 2027.
