Local Lead - Maths Education Progression

Location: Working in an agreed geographical area the post-holder will work with their local Maths Hubs to improve progression to study maths at Level 3 with a particular focus on working with teachers to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Salary: £55,620 per annum

Main duties and responsibilities
Are you passionate about improving maths education and supporting disadvantaged students to reach their full potential? Join MEI as a Local Lead, working with your regional Maths Hub to raise attainment and progression to Level 3 Maths. Lead work with schools to boost GCSE Maths performance and support students with high maths potential.
Collaborate with Maths Hubs and post-16leadsto increase participation in A level, CoreMaths and STEM pathways.
Provide professional development and curriculum support to secondary maths teachers.
Organise events with universities and employers to raise student aspirations.
Represent MEI/AMSP at local and regional education events.
Communication
Work as part of the AMSP team.
Report to their Senior Local Lead relating to their work, overseen by the Director for School & Stakeholder Engagement.
Promote the support provided by the AMSP by attending local and regional events, acting as a representative of the AMSP.
Liaise with HEIs, employers, careers organisations and otherappropriate localagencies and stakeholders in their area.
Provide required reporting information of school and college engagement to AMSP leadership and Maths Hubs.
In addition, the Local Lead will assist the School & Stakeholder Engagement Team by:
maintaining awareness and knowledge of current developments in mathematics education policy,researchand practice relevant to the role.
meeting MEI’s requirements for safeguarding, quality management, health and safety, other legal requirements and environmental policies.
Contribute to the wider work of MEI as required.

Experience of working in a regional or national role within maths education
A passion for mathematics and mathematics teaching
Qualified Teacher Status
3+ years of direct experience of teaching mathematics to students across the 11-19 age range
Experience of teaching both GCSE and AS/A level Mathematics
An education expert with deep subject knowledge and experience of implementing pedagogical best practice in subject and phase
A first degree in mathematics, or a strongly mathematics-based subject
Experience of supporting the development of mathematics teachers
Experience of leadership and management in a mathematics education context
The ability to think creatively and recognise opportunities
Strong IT skills including the use of technology in teaching mathematics
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Good team-working skills and the willingness to work as part of a team
The ability to inspire others
High levels of self-motivation and well-developed time management skills
An appreciation of MEI's work and philosophy
The ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people
Experience of teaching AS/A level Further Mathematics
Experience of teaching Level 3 Core Maths
Experience of delivering professional development for teachers of GCSE and/or A level Maths
Experience of delivering online teaching and/or online professional development
Experience of teaching in the state-sector
Experience of mathematics enrichment or outreach work
Experience of using software in the development of teaching/learning resources, such as quiz authoring tools, shared working environments, and mathematics software such as Desmos, GeoGebra or similar.
Additional information
This role is home/remote based and will involve some travel and occasional overnight stays away from home with expenses paid. The role may also involve some occasional work on a Saturday.
