Job Title: Content Officer
Salary: £36,000
Length of Contract: 12 months
Reports to: Head of Communications and Digital
Benefits: Nine-day fortnight (with alternate Fridays designated as a day off), pension contributions, 25 days annual leave, staff learning fund, enhanced parental benefits package.
Based in: UK/Remote (with monthly meetings in London)Why this role is important and why you’ll make a difference
HOPE not hate’s mission is to expose and oppose the far-right, whether that’s at the ballot box, in communities or online. It is clear to see that the far-right is growing in confidence.
We are seeking a Content Officer who can turn our messaging into compelling content that resonates with our key audiences. You’ll be a confident video creator who can take a story from concept to finished public piece, including writing and recording your own voiceovers. You’ll thrive in a small and nimble team, where quick turnaround is the norm. You’ll have an understanding of communities that are susceptible to the far-right, and the messaging that moves them.
What you’ll do in the role
Video-first content creation: Plan, edit and publish engaging video content for social media. Our videos are largely editing-led: you’ll tell stories using archive footage, collage-style, motion graphics, and other existing material. You’ll record your own voiceovers and lead in the scripting of content.
Visual content and design: Produce carousels, graphics and other visual assets for social media, and design layouts for blogs, reports and other digital publications.
Rapid response: Turn around content fast in response to breaking moments, news, and investigations from our team. Working closely with the Communications and Digital team, who will support you on drafting and messaging, to help you translate that into visuals that make an impact.
Strategic content planning: Thinking creatively about how you can use content and social media to reach the audiences that we need to speak to in order to stop the rise of the far-right.
What we think you’ll need to be able to do the job:
A deep respect for local communities who are most susceptible to the far right. Our role as HOPE not hate is to work proactively with these communities, without judgement and with great sensitivity.
Proven experience producing video content end-to-end through editing, building stories from existing footage and motion graphics, with experience delivering social media content for a campaigning organisation, non profit or political institution.
Strong visual design skills: creating carousels, graphics, and designs for social media, blogs, and reports using tools like Photoshop, Premiere Pro and CapCut.
The ability to work at pace and produce high-quality visuals to tight, reactive deadlines within a small but focused team.
Emotionally resilient: You are someone who can demonstrate emotional resilience when working on a tough issue in a high pressure climate. We understand that our work can be stressful and have support in place for all team members who need it but we encourage applicants to think carefully about whether they are prepared to work on this subject area day in and day out.
We believe that our work will be at its best if it is created by people with a range of backgrounds and experiences. We are keen to interview people who will add diversity to our team. We are an antifascist organisation, which strives to be an effective ally in the wider fight against racism and inequity.
