Full time hours at the University are 35 per week with the standard working pattern Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00. The working pattern for this role can be discussed at interview.

High level summary of job role
The Digital Learning and Media Services Team (DLMS) performs a critical function within the University of the Built Environment, supporting the development and production of high-quality online teaching and learning for our students. As Quality Controller and Editor, you will play an essential role, working closely with academic lecturers, subject experts, learning designers and peer quality controllers to ensure students experience high-quality written guidance, learning resources and assessments.
Specific job role accountabilities and responsibilities
Be responsible for enhancing in-house quality processes and procedures, standards, and specifications for the University’s digital resources.
Review and edit learning resources and assessments to ensure they comply with the University’s quality standards, Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) regulations and Professional Statutory Regulatory Bodies (PSRB) guidelines.
Co-ordinate and process assessment documents using an online production system, through critical review stages, to ensure they are approved and ready for use at the start of each semester.
Collaborate with Lecturers, Learning Designers, and the Learning Technology team to shape the development of new assessments.
Guide academic Lecturers and subject experts in authoring written module content (learning resources and activities, media scripts etc.), ensuring compliance with the University’s referencing system.
Assist with resourcing and checking copyright of images, drawings, library resources, and third-party material including the management, distribution, and access of core e-textbooks.
Co-ordinate student consultations to help inform the University’s module and assessment designs.
Support the development and facilitation of staff development sessions in the effective authoring and design of educational resources, including adherence to the University’s digital production standards.
Keep up to date with current trends and technologies in online pedagogy.
Advocate for online education and learning technologies, championing our approach with staff and students.

Qualifications and training
Degree level qualification in a relevant subject, or equivalent experience in the design and authoring of educational resources to meet specific learning outcomes (D, A).
Qualification/accreditation in teaching or learning technologies, e.g. PGCert in teaching and learning, HEA fellow, CMALT, or working to achieve this (D, A).
Previous experience
Developing Quality Assurance standards, procedures, and specifications for educational content (E, A, I).
Developing and editing student-focused educational resources including assessment, within an online environment (E, A, I).
A track record of successfully managing ongoing relationships where feedback is important (E, A, I).
Within the same or similar sector (D, A, I).
Familiar with educational technologies such as Virtual Learning Environments in support of learning, teaching, and assessment (D, A, I).
Experience of UX research-led design of resources and systems (D, A, I).
Skills, knowledge, and aptitudes
Digital skills confidence: We use MS Office which includes Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and several other systems/technologies (E, I, T).
Ability to work calmly under pressure and adapt readily to changing circumstances (E, I).
Strong attention to detail, quality control, and an ability to engage with content at a detailed level (E, A, I).
Understanding of a range of learning and teaching practices and pedagogies (D, I).
Ability to communicate constructive criticism sensitively and confidently to authors (E, I).
Ability to work alongside a variety of stakeholders to ensure the design and development of quality online content (covering both technical and pedagogical aspects) (E, I).
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and build good working relationships with all colleagues (E, I).
An aptitude for problem solving, analysing issues, and offering proactive, informed solutions (E, I).

PAY AND BENEFITS
Salary: Actual salary £24,674 (£34,543 Full Time Equivalent).
Holiday: 26 days paid holiday (rising to 28 with service) plus paid bank/public holidays plus up to five paid closure days (typically between Christmas and New Year); all per holiday year Full Time Equivalent. Our holiday year runs from 1 August to 31 July. We also have a holiday buy and sell scheme in place. Sometimes the University does not need to close for five days per year and any balance (for example one day), can be used as a paid Wellbeing Day to take time out for your own physical or mental health.
