INTRODUCING SOS UK
SOS UK is a student-led education charity focusing on sustainability. We know environmental sustainability cannot be achieved in isolation, so our work spans across issues of climate justice and wellbeing as well. We believe in lifelong learning and work on sustainability across all forms of education from early years to workplace learning. We act as a support crew - facilitating, encouraging and mentoring people wherever they are on their journey in sustainability.
We see the power and potential in students and young people to be at the forefront of change. We work alongside them as equal partners in their sustainability leadership journeys. We believe that when students lead on sustainability, they learn about it, picking up the vital knowledge, skills and competencies they will need to help transform society into a more just and sustainable place. Our vision is to see: more students leading on, and learning for, sustainability; an education system repurposed around the climate emergency and ecological crisis; and sustainability that is more inclusive, so it is for everyone.
ABOUT THE ROLEOur team of project managers deliver our education and engagement projects, programmes, campaigns and advocacy initiatives at specified educational institutions and other organisations as well as cross-cutting organisational priorities for national and, sometimes, international initiatives. Project managers ensure delivery is to a high standard and our programmes benefit both the individuals and the organisations involved.
This role will be focused on our curriculum transformation work, including our longstanding Responsible Futures student led audit and accreditation for universities and colleges, our engagement with professional bodies in higher education, Future Schools and the set-up of the National Union of School Students. Through delivering these programmes, campaigns and advocacy initiatives, the postholder will work with a wide range of stakeholders including students, academics, local authorities and policymakers.
Some responsibilities include:
Managing paid student staff and coordinating volunteers
Developing training and facilitating collaborative spaces for dialogue and resource creation relating to curriculum transformation and student leadership
Facilitating student-led audits and developing audit reports
Contributing to policy recommendations on curriculum transformation
Engaging professional bodies and other education organisations to better embed sustainability in learning
Please read a full description of the role’s responsibilities and person specification (knowledge, skills, attributes, qualifications and experience) in the role profile, which you can download at the top of this page
Liberation, equality and diversity
We're fully committed to equality of opportunity for everyone. We welcome applications regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.
We recognise that people from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds, and disabled people, are underrepresented within our organisation and that there are often additional barriers for these groups when applying for roles within the charity sector and beyond.
We are committed to taking proactive steps to improve the diversity of our team. If you identify as a person of colour or as a disabled person, and you clearly demonstrate that you meet all of the essential criteria for this role, you may be shortlisted for a first stage interview through our Positive Action Interview Scheme.
To take part, simply tick the relevant box on the application form. Applicants who opt into the scheme and clearly demonstrate that they meet all the essential criteria will be invited to a first stage interview.
Please note that, in exceptional circumstances, if we receive an unusually high number of eligible applications and it is not feasible to interview everyone who qualifies through the scheme, we will invite the highest scoring applicants who have opted in.
Participation in the scheme is entirely voluntary. Final recruitment decisions will always be based solely on the suitability of each candidate for the role.
Feedback
Please note, unfortunately we are unable to provide feedback to candidates who do not progress to the interview stage.
