1. Purpose
Your outstanding management of the Woodland Heritage Skills project will ensure that the
project meets its objectives and in doing so help the charity in achieving its mission.
You will be a core part of how Woodland Heritage is achieving its mission and it will be an
incredibly rewarding and varied experience!
Your work with the charity will be as part of a small, dedicated team of staff and a wider
group of passionate trustees. Everyone will want you to succeed and will support you along the way.

We do this by championing the good use of home-grown timber from sustainable, productive woodlands for the benefit of present and future generations. Through a combination of demonstration sites, research, education, membership and outreach, we build on the wisdom and skills of the past to weather the challenges of tomorrow.
2. About the role
● The role is full time 37.5 hours per week for a fixed term of two years, with planned
evening and weekend working as required.
● We can offer flexible working and hybrid working. You may wish to work at Whitney
Sawmills, Herefordshire, for example for a day per week, though this is not required.
● 25 days plus Bank/Public holidays as paid leave
● Salary £35,000 PA FTE
● Your line manager will be the Chief Executive
● Employer contribution from www.nestpensions.org.uk

This role is part of a £238,442 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to create
‘Woodland Heritage Skills’; two years of educational workshops, digital educational assets
and collaboration with its members and partners to deliver the charity’s new Open Woods
& Workshops initiative.
A tremendous £13,547 of this grant is matched funding from the outdoor furniture B-Corp
Gaze Burvill, a corporate member of Woodland Heritage, alongside fellow personal and
corporate members of the charity.
3. About you
Essential

● The ability to lead colleagues
● Demonstrable experience of managing projects
● Demonstrable experience of delivering educational/skills impact
● Demonstrable experience of a willingness to learn and to be flexible
● Demonstrable experience of outstanding customer/donor/supporter service
● Demonstrable experience of working to develop effective relationships with key
external stakeholders
● Demonstrable experience of organising excellent events
● The ability to work independently and effectively as a key part of a small team
● A proactive approach and problem-solving attitude, seeing tasks through to
completion
● Excellent all round communication skills and relationship management abilities
● Experience in conducting administrative tasks to a high standard, including record
keeping and orderly filing of information
● Personal drive, energy, integrity, adaptability and responsibility
● Valid UK driving licence. Though much of your travel will be using public transport,
there are locations which will be challenging to reach without access to a car
● Good level of technical skill which helps you make the most of remote working,
Google Workspace, digital communication and the innovation that technology can
bring to a small organisation
Desirable
● Experience of project management of a National Lottery Heritage Fund Project
● Experience within the charity sector
● Experience of woodland management and productive woodlands
● Experience of fundraising
● Experience of communications
● An understanding of or interest in forestry, timber production, wood use and
climate change
4. Your work
● Overall project management of the Woodland Heritage Skills project
● With support from the Chief Executive, Engagement Manager and Communications
Officer, lead on the delivery of:
o Evaluation of the project
o Acknowledgement of key partners
o Embedding the project within the charity’s operational plan, infrastructure
and mission
o Create and deliver a plan for organisational sustainability of the project
o Planning and delivery of in person educational opportunities at
demonstration sites in Hereford and Somerset, of digital awareness raising
and Woodland Heritage Skills assets, all aimed at Tree growers, potential
woodland owners, wood users and processors, consumers of wood
products, nature lovers, scientists, stakeholders
o Support the recruitment of Open Woods & Workshops hosts and deliver
ongoing support for these hosts so as to deliver the above educational and
skills impacts as part of the project’s objectives
