Communications Officer
Employer: Collections Trust
Location: Remote working from home (UK based). Collections Trust has no central office, and all staff work remotely from home.
Working hours: 22.2 hours per week (0.6 FTE). Work pattern to be agreed with the successful candidate. Please note, due to the pattern of internal team meetings, the post-holder will be required to work on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays.
Salary: £20,003 (£33,338 FTE)

Aims and scope of the post
Collections Trust is a small but influential charity that helps museums work with the information that connects audiences and collections. Our standards and advice are used around the world to make museum collections accessible. We are based in the UK but work internationally.
Collections Trust is one of Arts Council England’s Investment Principles Support Organisations (IPSO) within the ACE National Portfolio (2023-27). Through our ACE-funded programme, the Communications Officer raises awareness of the Spectrum standard, online guidance and resources, and training offer to our community of users and the wider museum sector. In particular, the postholder nurtures well-established communications channels that include our website, e-newsletter, and social media channels.
Main responsibilities and tasks
Planning – working with colleagues to plan and implement campaigns, segmentation strategies and communications activity, in line with Collections Trust’s communications strategy and Arts Council England investment principles.
Website content management – managing and regularly developing topical areas of the website including the homepage, news and blog area, using the WordPress content management system.
Newsletter – developing content, preparing and publishing the e-newsletter and managing the list of approx. 5,000 subscribers.
Content creation – working with colleagues to create, develop and edit content for Collections Trust’s growing digital channels, including YouTube.
Social media management – providing community management for our social media accounts, primarily LinkedIn and YouTube.
Monitoring, analytics, and reporting – evaluate and report on digital activity, providing timely feedback to management team and making recommendations for future activity.
Media relations – preparing occasional media releases to share with key sector partners.
Event support – preparing promotional print and display graphics to support our attendance at sector conferences.
User group – working with the Deputy Director to coordinate and prepare material for Collections Trust’s user group.
Enquiries – responding to enquirers who get in touch via the website.
Networking – occasional in-person and online networking meetings and conferences, for example Museums and Heritage Show.
General responsibilities
Following the principles of Collection’s Trusts policies and procedures.
Additional duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.
Line management and key relationships
The Communications Officer reports directly to the Deputy Director and has no line management responsibility.

Essential knowledge, skills and qualities
Proven track record of creating engaging content for digital and social media channels, including YouTube and LinkedIn, to develop and grow an organisation’s engagement.
Experience using analytics tools (eg. Google Analytics, Matomo) and the ability to interpret and evaluate data to develop better user experiences.
Excellent writing, editing and proof-reading skills.
Experience of web editing and using content management systems (eg. WordPress).
Experience using photo and video editing software (preferably Adobe Creative Cloud eg. Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign).
A good working knowledge of the museum sector and an understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.
Desirable knowledge, skills and qualities
Some knowledge of museum collections management.
Experience working in HTML, XML and CSS.
Knowledge of design, graphics and print production.
Knowledge of current and emerging technologies, trends and best practice in marketing and communications.
Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal, networking and organisational skills.
