    In Summary...

    As a Finance Manager at smol, you will take ownership of our day-to-day financial operations working with the team to support the ongoing financial wellbeing of the business. This role will be pivotal in managing core finance functions, providing accurate and timely information to support strategic decision-making.

    This is a hands-on and collaborative role, designed for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, people-focused environment


    What does the role involve?..

    Overseeing day-to-day finance operations

    Provide guidance and support to the Finance Assistant, ensuring daily processes such as invoicing, payments, and reconciliations are completed accurately and efficiently.

    Producing management accounts
    Take ownership of preparing monthly management accounts, delivering accurate and timely reports.

    Overheads forecasting and budgeting
    Lead on producing forecasts and managing budgets for overheads, working closely with department leads to ensure financial discipline and accountability across the business

    Balance sheet and cashflow management
    Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and cashflow forecasts, ensuring a strong financial position is maintained and highlighting any risks or opportunities.

    Tax compliance
    Manage the preparation and submission of VAT returns across multiple jurisdictions (UK, Germany, and OSS), ensuring compliance with local regulations and deadlines.

    Payroll oversight
    Oversee the preparation of monthly payroll, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with statutory requirements.

    Annual budgeting and year-end support
    Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, and play a key role in the year-end process, liaising with external accountants to ensure a smooth and efficient audit.

    Systems and process improvements
    Support ongoing improvements to finance systems and processes, working with colleagues across the business to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and scalability as we grow.

    Project work and transformation
    Contribute to ad hoc finance projects, including initiatives focused on strengthening internal controls, driving finance transformation, and embedding best practices across the department.

    You will need/be...

    We are looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and a proactive mindset. You will need to be:

    A commercially astute part-qualified or newly qualified accountant, with a strong eye for detail.

    Experience in a similar industry role; sector experience is preferable but not essential.

    Confident in preparing management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations.

    Able to work collaboratively within a team while meeting tight deadlines.

    A clear communicator, skilled at making financial information easy to understand.

    Naturally curious, with an eye for process improvements and the confidence to make suggestions.

    Familiar with Xero or similar accounting systems.
