The Contracts and Legal Manager for our Governance Team will focus and lead on:
1. Providing expertise in contract management and contractual terms to supporting the expansion of our corporate partnerships and consultancy work.
2. Developing a contract management system that is proportionate to our size and risks.
3. Acting as the key point of contact for all legal matters, supporting teams to understand contractual terms and risks, whilst acting as the key point of contact with our legal advisors and managing our retainer.
What you will be doing
You will:
1. Ensure that we stay on top of rolling contracts and renewals, prompting teams to make sure that they do not lose sight of these.
2. Review and improve our existing processes for managing and documenting contracts and renewals and develop resources for contract owners to assist them with contract management.
3. Be a key contact for staff across the matrix signing contracts with third party suppliers and corporate partners, supporting with the review of contracts, identifying any areas of risk.
4. Explain legal terms to staff without legal training so they understand the risks associated with contract terms, developing a standard set of terms that are acceptable.
5. Provide general legal input and advice where required, seeking specialist legal advice where necessary.
You
You will have relevant demonstratable experience of understanding and applying contractual terms and supporting contractual negotiations.
You will be pragmatic in your approach ensuring that processes are proportionate to our size and to the risks.
You will have experience working with a variety of stakeholders, taking a proportionate approach to responding to risks associated with contracts.
You will be proactive in keeping up to date with legal changes and developments.
You will be confident in managing your own workload and prioritising according to risk and organisational priority.
You will have experience working with solicitors or seeking legal advice.
You are confident, purpose driven and have a knowledge or willingness to learn about deaf culture.
You will be able to travel to our residential Staff Summits up to three times per year and attend other ad hoc face to face meetings where required.
Desirable qualifications
· A degree in relevant area, e.g. law or business administration
· A qualification from the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply
