    About the Team

In Finance, we power Jisc’s success.

We keep the organisation financially strong, compliant, and future-ready—providing expert insight, robust control, and smart financial management. From budgeting and forecasting to tax, reporting and procurement, we ensure every pound works hard. We partner across Jisc to support great decision-making and help turn strategy into action.

    About the role

As an Assistant Finance Business Partner, you’ll play a key role in helping Jisc make informed, strategic decisions.

Partnering with operational teams, you’ll deliver high-quality financial reporting, insightful analysis, and clear, practical advice. You’ll be hands-on with month-end activities, including journals, accruals and prepayments, and will help bring the numbers to life through meaningful commentary and variance analysis.

You’ll support budgeting and forecasting cycles, helping to challenge assumptions and improve financial planning, while gaining exposure to key projects across the organisation. Alongside this, you’ll contribute to business cases, support data analysis, and help drive continuous improvement through finance transformation and reporting enhancements.

Working closely with the wider finance team, you’ll build strong relationships, strengthen financial understanding across Jisc, and help ensure robust controls, governance and best practice are in place—all while developing your own skills as a trusted finance partner.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • You’ll be confident translating financial information into clear, meaningful insights for non-finance colleagues, helping stakeholders understand performance and make informed decisions.

    • Using your strong Excel skills, you’ll analyse and manipulate data, build reports, and support forecasting and budgeting processes—turning complex datasets into practical, actionable insights.

    • You’ll play an active role in preparing forecasts and budgets, working closely with stakeholders to gather inputs, challenge assumptions, and ensure plans are robust and aligned to business priorities.

    • You’ll also be involved in the full month-end cycle, including preparing management accounts, completing reconciliations, and posting accruals and prepayments. Alongside this, you’ll provide variance analysis and insightful commentary, explaining key movements and highlighting risks and opportunities.

    • Strong communication skills will be key—you’ll work collaboratively across finance and the wider business, building relationships, supporting decision-making, and contributing to high-quality, accurate financial reporting.

    What we are looking for:

    • You’ll bring a continuous improvement mindset, with the confidence and curiosity to challenge existing reporting processes and drive meaningful change.

    • You’ll enjoy working in a fast-paced, commercially focused environment, where priorities can shift and no two days are the same.

    • As a proactive self-starter, you’ll be comfortable working independently, taking ownership of your responsibilities and managing both internal and external deadlines with confidence.

    Need to have

Part qualified accountant (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, ICAS, ICAI)

    Nice to have

    Power BI reporting

    Project accounting
