    About the role:

We’re looking for a Solution Architect to join the Enterprise architect team within the Group CTO directorate. This team plays a central role in shaping Jisc’s target architecture, setting design standards, and governing technical decision‑making across the organisation. You’ll be part of the Jisc Design Authority, working closely with Technical Design Authorities and project delivery teams to ensure our technology solutions are aligned, strategic, and support successful transformation outcomes.

In this role, you’ll help drive architectural consistency across major transformation workstreams, provide trusted decision support to programme teams, and guide the design and delivery of solutions across multiple technology domains. You’ll also contribute to the development of architectural artefacts, patterns, and practices that underpin Jisc’s long‑term technology strategy.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and maintain architectural working practices within the Jisc Design Authority

    • Contribute to target architectures, design patterns, principles, standards, and roadmaps

    • Coordinate and participate in Technical Design Authorities to support joined‑up decision‑making

    • Work with architects, designers, and delivery teams to design solutions that meet business and programme needs

    • Provide architectural guidance and decision support across transformation workstreams, acting as a trusted advisor to stakeholders

    • Support the implementation of solutions, ensuring they align with agreed designs and meet business requirements

    What we are looking for:

    • Substantial experience working within an architectural or technical design team.

    • Experience with Salesforce, MuleSoft, AWS, and Dynamics 365, plus designing solutions across major cloud providers

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non‑technical stakeholders

    • Confidence designing solutions across multiple technology domains and understanding modern design patterns

    • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively across large teams and complex programmes

    • Familiarity with architectural tooling and modelling approaches (e.g., UML)

    • TOGAF or an equivalent architectural qualification

    It’s a bonus if you:

    • Have experience working on large transformation programmes or developing an architectural practice

    • Have designed solutions to decommission or migrate away from legacy platforms

    • Have experience developing or maturing an architectural practice

    Don’t meet every single requirement?

We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they think they can’t tick every box, so we encourage you to apply even if you do not meet 100% of the requirements, but you feel this role is perfect for you. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles!

    Hybrid working:

Specific patterns for working in the office are not mandated, and the frequency of time worked in the office is agreed with your manager. Meeting in person is something we value so you may need to travel on occasion to any of our hub offices.
