Deaf Unity is a deaf-led charity aimed at empowering deaf people – championing their rights and enabling successful journeys from education into employment and beyond. We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive, passionate and highly-organised individual to join Deaf Unity at an exciting point in our development.
You will lead on the development of our income generating services, shaping this area of our work to complement our charitable aims of supporting deaf people from education to employment. Our services include communication support provision, translation support and interpreting services. You will be pivotal in managing, promoting and growing these services.
In return you will have the opportunity to work within a small developing charity. This role will strengthen our charity to support deaf school leavers, deaf job seekers and deaf professionals. This means the work you do will make a positive contribution to and directly impact the lives of deaf people.
This role would suit an existing freelancer with experience of working within the BSL services sector.
Job Type
The Services Coordinator is an exciting role with a lot of room for growth and development. The coordinator will be responsible for comprehensive administration, management and promotion of Deaf Unity’s services. This includes:
Providing CSW and Interpreting provision – both responding to general requests and building a regular client list
Jobs board advertising and generation
Promotion of translation services
Exploring other income-generating opportunities relating to supporting deaf school leavers and job seekers.
The role will also be expected to work closely with the Training Coordinator to cross-sell and maximise promotion of both areas (Training and Services).Role Purpose
This role is central to ensuring deaf people can access high-quality, reliable support – whether that’s Communication Support Workers (CSWs), Interpreters, translation services, or employment support.
You will oversee the day-to-day running of our services, respond to requests, build strong relationships with clients and freelancers, and help us develop new opportunities – particularly in supporting deaf school leavers, jobseekers and professionals.
This is a role for someone with excellent organisational and relationship-building skills, who cares deeply about access and equality for deaf people.What You’ll Be Doing
Service Coordination
Managing requests for CSW and Interpreter provision
Generating requests for CSW and Interpreter provision
Managing translation projects from initial query to delivery
Matching clients with the right professionals
Expanding and maintaining a regular client base, and encouraging repeat custom
Ensuring services are reliable, responsive and high quality, for example, through feedback surveys and quality-checking
Maintaining positive relationships with both clients and freelancers
Quoting clients, sending invoices and chasing any late payments
Sourcing and registering CSWs, interpreters and translators for Deaf Unity work
Maintaining up to date freelancer records, including DBS, insurance and other compliance checks
Administration of rotas and management of freelance staff, ensuring smooth delivery
Promoting the jobs board to increase reach and impact
Working with other roles e.g. Training Coordinator to ensure overall smooth provision of Deaf Unity’s Services and Training offer

Developing and Improving Services
Developing and maintaining a system for sales and promotion e.g. tracking leads, follow ups with existing clients etc
Growing our deaf clients, matching our services to support access
Promoting our services to potential clients, leading to ongoing relationships where possible
Identifying opportunities to grow and strengthen our offer
Exploring new ways to support deaf school leavers, jobseekers and professionals
Ensuring our services remain relevant and responsive, for example to developments in the sector
Connecting clients to other Deaf Unity services, including cross-promoting training opportunities
Achieving agreed targets of the role – hours may increase in line with growth
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
Has experience managing services or projects
Is highly organised and able to balance multiple priorities
Is confident building relationships with clients and freelancers
Understands the importance of accessibility and inclusion
Can spot opportunities to improve and develop services, and action them
Shares our commitment to deaf empowerment and equality
Knowledge of the deaf community and communication support services would be highly valued.
Essential:
Strong organisational and multitasking skills with a keen attention to detail.
Experience in business outreach and building business relationships and partnerships.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently, demonstrating strong self-motivation and initiative
Proven track record of meeting sales targets and promoting services.
If no existing BSL skills, an interest and commitment to learning BSL is required (training provided).
Desirable:
Knowledge of BSL (ideally Level 2/3 or above)
Proficiency in using CRM systems and other administrative software.
Knowledge of deaf communication/access services, such as interpreting best practice. (If no prior knowledge, expectation to quickly learn and upskill to be able to deliver role effectively)
