Sport England is looking for an experienced and curious communications professional to join us as a Senior Press Officer in our Policy and Communications directorate.
Working closely with the Head of Media, you will play a role in our press office, handling media enquiries, identifying emerging risks and opportunities, and providing clear, evidence-led advice to senior colleagues. You will also develop compelling stories, write high-quality media content, build relationships with journalists and support spokespeople.
We are looking for someone with demonstrable experience in media relations, public relations or journalism, strong news judgement and excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will be able to manage sensitive or reputational issues, lead projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
The role involves travel across England and participation in an out-of-hours media rota, including occasional evening and weekend working.
Your role is an important part of the wider communications team; you will be helping to protect, celebrate and enhance Sport England's public reputation. It is an exciting time to join Sport England as we look towards the next phase of our 10 year-strategy, Uniting the Movement.
Sport England is committed to inclusive recruitment and will consider reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process.
About Us
At Sport England, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of sport and physical activity – regardless of age, gender, background, bank balance or post code. We are an arm’s length body responsible for growing and developing grassroots sport and helping more people get active across England – around two thirds of our funding comes from players of The National Lottery, with the remainder coming from the Exchequer.
Our work is driven by Uniting the Movement, a 10-year strategy focused on tackling inequalities and creating positive experiences of sport and physical activity for all. From funding local community initiatives to influencing national policy, we work in partnership with organisations and individuals who share our vision of an active nation where everyone feels able to take part and be active in a way that works for them.
