We are the UK’s leading fostering charity and membership organisation. We were founded 50 years ago by foster carers, for foster carers and we are dedicated to supporting foster carers every step of the way. We are looking for a new full-time Sales Ledger Officer to own and run our Sales Ledger process. This will involve:
Invoicing members on a regular schedule, through our accounting software – the process is semi-automated, but we would like to make it more efficient in future
Invoicing customers for other services
Being the first point of contact for members and customers about their invoices
Managing credit control, chasing up late payments, and following an established process. This process is also semi-automated.
We are looking for someone to join our supportive and friendly team, who is proactive, who can organise their own workload, and is also willing to help improve processes and can deal with change. AAT or equivalent and suitable experience required. Our main office is in London, but we practice remote and hybrid working – but UK-based only.
Core Purpose:
To run a well-functioning Accounts Receivable system and to have an accurate sales ledger.
Primary Objectives:
Sales invoicing
Credit control for the above.
Responsibilities:
Sales invoicing
Raising and sending invoices as required, including sales invoices Membership, Mockingbird, ISS, A&M, Training, LMS, rent and for publications sold via Partridges. This also involves managing the relevant data, eg on the CRM, from the Mockingbird team, from the Facilities team and Partridges.
Raising credit notes where necessary for the above.
Assisting Head of Finance during any system change for sales ledger, providing any ad-hoc reports and reconciliations as required.
Credit control
Credit control for the above, including sending monthly reminders for overdue balances, and responding to queries by email and sometimes telephone. This will use our semi-automated system for sending out reminder emails, but will also involve handling the responses.
Team Working:
Work closely with the Finance team to ensure that plans and priorities align with wider organisational plans and strategies
Effectively represent the team and actively contribute at internal meetings and external events.

In addition to their immediate team, this role-holder will particularly work with: Membership team, Mockingbird team, Practice Team, Facilities Team Members, Mockingbird customers, Practice customers, tenants.
What we’re looking for:
Essential Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications
Experience in using CRM database systems,
Experience in working as an accounting assistant
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Experience of successful debt collection
Experience of invoicing, processing payments and maintaining financial data
Able to maintain the confidentiality of information held by the Fostering Network.
ATT or equivalent of accountancy qualification

Good standard of numeracy and ability to work accurately and with an eye to detail.
Ability to liaise and communicate with staff at all levels. Proven ability to work as an effective team member with a strong focus on team collaboration

Ability to manage competing demands, to plan, prioritise and organise own workload and to work in an organised and systematic way.
Ability to work independently and in the absence of senior staff. Recognise when to seek help and to take direction when required.

Desirable
