We are looking for a Research Assistant to
join our team.
The Research Institute for Disabled Consumers (RiDC) is the leading expert in inclusive research involving disabled people. We are an independent, national charity with over 60 years of experience in commissioned consumer research and insights in this specialist area.
We have developed a strong track record of providing unique insights and solutions to businesses, government and charities.
We are run by and for people with a personal experience of disability.
Our approach
We always start from the perspective of disabled people. By working in a participatory way with disabled people, listening to their needs and reflecting on real lives in our research, we ensure nobody is excluded.
Our panel
RiDC was one of the first organisations to establish a UK panel of disabled and older consumers. Our panel now includes over 4,300 people and is the largest pan-disability panel in the UK.
Purpose of the role
We are looking for a Research Assistant to play an important role in delivering insightful and impactful research outcomes involving disabled consumers.
We are looking for an individual who will:
• To assist with research to help improve products and services for disabled consumers.
• To assist with research and the publication of grounding breaking inclusive research.
All postholders and teams are required to contribute across the organisation so that skills and knowledge are used to maximum effect for the organisation’s mission and contribute to the learning and development of teams.
Organisation structure
The post holder would be line-managed by one of our Directors of Inclusive Research but will work very closely with everyone in the team, including the CEO.
Job description
To assist with research to help improve products and services for disabled consumers.
• Desk-based research, market research and consultation with
stakeholders.
• Assist in developing surveys, consumer audits, usability testing, interviews and focus groups.
• Analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.
• Production of client reports and consumer information.
• Undertake recruitment exercises with the RiDC Consumer Panel.
To assist with research and the publication of grounding breaking inclusive research.
• Liaise with clients, partners, panel members and other stakeholders.
• Turn insight into actions by working with colleagues to build on our research and develop outcomes that align with organisational strategy and priorities.
Personal specification
Qualifications
• Qualified to degree level in a research-based discipline (or equivalent).
Experience
• Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods such as user tests, surveys and focus groups.
• An understanding of practical statistics with an ability to think analytically.
Skills
• Knowledge of user-focused research methodologies.
• Inquisitive about people and their lives.
• Demonstrate creativity and a proactive approach.
• A team player who can work with colleagues and with external stakeholders including those with lived experience of disability.
• An analytical and organised mind
• Strong one-to-one interview and focus group facilitation skills.
• Strong communication skills, written, verbal, presentation.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and within deadlines
• Ability to work within a team and in partnership with other organisations.
Knowledge
• Awareness of disability and age-related issues and of the social, commercial and legislative forces that impact older and disabled people.
Desirable
• Lived experience of disability
• Sound working knowledge of Qualtrics, Trello and Miro.

• Annual salary: £28,000 (5% employer pension contribution)
• 29 days leave per year
• Hours of work: Full-time, 35 hours per week but willing to consider flexibility
• Wellbeing allowance: £300 per year.
• Location: Flexible: Home-based with occasional travel to London.
• Term: Permanent
