Relate sits within Family Action, a national charity that has supported people through change, challenge and crisis for 150 years.
We are now looking for multiple Relate Counsellors to join us on a part-time, permanent basis, working 21 (15 client hours) or 28 (20 client hours) per week.

- Relationship trained: £38,961 (£20.25 per hour)
- Relationship + Family and/or Young People trained: £41,366 (£21.50 per hour)
- Relationship + PST trained: £42,809 (£22.25 per hour)

This is a rewarding opportunity for experienced relationship counsellors with significant post-qualification experience in couples counselling and sex therapy to join our compassionate organisation.
You’ll have the chance to support people through some of the most personal and challenging moments in their lives, helping them feel heard and understood.
The Role
As a Relate Counsellor, you will provide safe, professional and effective relationship therapy to individuals and couples.
You will deliver counselling in line with Relate’s clinical standards, policies and professional ethical requirements, providing an inclusive and non-judgemental service. You will monitor client wellbeing, identify risks and safeguarding concerns, and take appropriate action to support client safety.
Managing your caseload and appointments, you will maintain records and complete required assessments, case notes and safeguarding documentation.
Additionally, you will:
- Carry out welfare checks
- Maintain professional registration, accreditation and CPD records
- Adapt your practice to meet the needs of diverse clients
About You
To be considered as a Relate Counsellor, you will need:
- 200 hours or more of post-qualification supervised clinical practice
- Significant experience in the clinical delivery of therapeutic or support services within a complex, multi-site or national organisation
- Significant post-qualification counselling experience in couples counselling and sex therapy
- Experience of working with individuals, couples and families therapeutically where complexities present
- Experience of working within a psychodynamic and systems approach with individuals, couples and families
- Confidence using client management databases to manage a caseload and record case notes and follow safeguarding & risk management protocols
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of the safeguarding of adults and children policy and practice
- In-depth knowledge of ethical frameworks and safeguarding in therapeutic practice
- At a minimum, a Level 5/Column B qualification in Relationship Therapy from Relate or equivalent training providers
- To be trained in one session therapy by recognised providers or have completed Relate short intervention training incorporating One Session Therapy
- Registration as a full clinical member, working towards accreditation, with an appropriate professional body organisation relevant to sector/therapy modality
