From proactively setting the agenda, to responding to policy announcements, to ensuring our team has a sound understanding of the future of the North Sea, this is a diverse role at the heart of our work pushing for a rapid and fair transition.

The successful candidate will have exceptional policy skills, an ability to think politically, and a keen interest in climate and energy-related policy and campaigns. A strong commitment to Uplift's mission and core values is also required.

This role is a 9 month long contract to cover a secondment within the team.

    Core Responsibilities Policy

    ● Lead Uplift’s policy work, including helping define priorities, policy research, analysis and development, and proactive, evidence-based advocacy that advances Uplift’s objectives.

    ● Spearhead the development and testing of innovative policy initiatives that align with Uplift’s mission. Engage deeply with partners and the broader ecosystem of climate and just transition policy in the UK, staying ahead of trends, leveraging research, and experimenting with approaches to advocacy and policy influence.

    ● With the Head of Research, Policy and Legal and the principal advisers (Research, Legal) identify knowledge gaps relevant to the organisation's strategy and work to fill these gaps through external and internal research and policy development.

    Coordination and Strategy Delivery

    ● Work with other teams to set and execute policy priorities, including leading Uplift’s ‘policy unit’ and coordinating with the legal team.

    ● Provide in-house policy expertise to ensure Uplift’s policy needs are adequately met and to support teams at Uplift to speak with accuracy and authority.

    ● Contribute to the management and wider work of the Research, Policy and Legal team, including managing contractors and staff, as appropriate.

    ● Develop systems for effective quality assurance and knowledge management at Uplift for policy-related outputs and resources.

    Advocacy and Network Support

    ● Build capacity amongst other Uplift teams to understand the intersection of their work with policy topics, to drive collaboration and enhance synergies with other teams. Support the politics team in advocating for shared policy demands and, with guidance, develop policy proposals on defined topic areas in line with the organisation's mission and values.

    ● Represent Uplift to policymakers and partner organisations, fostering relationships and enhancing our visibility and influence.
