Raise your potential at Jisc through our culture of lifelong learning. At Jisc, we're all about growth, so embrace new challenges, sharpen your skills and shape a career that excites you.
The role:
At Jisc, our Group CTO directorate sits at the heart of our digital ambition—driving innovation, shaping technology strategy, and delivering the platforms that power our services for members and customers. Within this directorate, our Workplace IT function plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, performance and evolution of the systems that keep Jisc running.
We’re now looking for a skilled professional to join our FinSys Platform team: the specialists responsible for maintaining and enhancing our financial systems, including Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP Concur and a range of SaaS platforms. This is a role that blends the discipline of a Systems Reliability Engineer with the orchestration of a DevOps Release Manager, ensuring our platforms remain stable, resilient and ready for the future. There will also be a need to have coding skills relating to D365 (Visual Studio), DevOps, Electronic Reporting as some code build and developer checking will be needed.
What you’ll be doing:
Planning and managing both short‑term stability and long‑term scalability of the Platform, bridging the gap between development and operations to maintain large‑scale systems effectively.
Leveraging software engineering practices to automate operational tasks, including managing production systems, handling incidents, being responsible for Environments (Version) upgrade planning and responding to emergencies.
Owning and executing a robust release management process across all Platform environments to deliver stable, high‑quality enterprise releases on schedule while minimising disruption.
Ensuring consistent and timely releases that drive customer satisfaction through the prompt delivery of new features, improvements and bug fixes.
Defining and managing release readiness and success criteria, proactively identifying and mitigating risks, and tracking application dependencies that influence release schedules.
Managing change control processes to ensure all updates meet release readiness criteria prior to deployment, supported by clear communication with stakeholders to set expectations and promote the benefits of change.
Continually work towards making improvements through maintaining documenting, proactively resolving or removing release issues and developing plans to improve process or automation.
What we are looking for:
Previous experience in a role responsible for managing releases and environments (development, sandbox, testing and production) for some or all of the Platform(s).
A track record of implementing changes to Platform(s) that have positively affected cost, resilience, performance or productivity.
Demonstrable experience as the technical lead in platform management, with capability in people management and/or leadership.
Experience creating, developing and maintaining policies, processes and procedures, while maintaining awareness of current and emerging technologies that could improve infrastructure or processes.
The ability to create predictive as well as reactive monitoring to build more resilient infrastructure, and to lead discussions suggesting improvements related to cost, resilience, performance and productivity.
Experience planning and delivering project work alongside operational activities, and developing at least eight outputs from the key deliverables listed above.
A strong background in collaborating with other teams to improve technology or processes.
Don’t meet every single requirement?

Hybrid working:
Specific patterns for working in the office are not mandated, and the frequency of time worked in the office is agreed with your manager. Meeting in person is something we value, so you may need to travel on occasion to any of our hub offices.
