Job Description
The team works collaboratively with the National Church Institutions (NCIs), dioceses and parishes collecting and assembling data to support the Church’s missional, pastoral and operational activities through high-quality information and analysis. This is used locally, at parish, diocesan and national levels, involving the Team in a wide range of customer contacts and interfaces.
In the context of the Church of England’s Transforming Effectiveness Programme, the Data Services Team will work to promote data collection that is economic, efficient and effective, producing high-quality services and deliverables geared to a varied range of customer needs.
Within the Team, the Data and Analysis unit will lead on consolidating core deliverables and establishing best practice for research and analysis, acting as professional centre of excellence to inform and assist operational and development work within the Team. Within Data Services, the Data Operations Team comprises of a number of operational teams, one of which is the Support Team which covers a number of church and diocese-facing systems, including the People System and National Register.
Responsibilities
Systems and Data Administration
Manage user access and permissions for people and data systems, ensuring appropriate access controls are maintained.
Review new positions within the People System, approving or rejecting requests in line with agreed processes and governance standards.
Maintain department and position data, ensuring organisational records are accurate, consistent and up to date.
Support data collection and data entry processes across internal systems.
Data Quality and Governance
Ensure data accuracy, consistency and completeness across internal platforms.
Perform regular data cleansing and validation checks to maintain data integrity.
Support data governance activities, including assisting with the implementation of data policies and compliance procedures.
Apply agreed naming conventions, file structures and version control consistently across systems and documentation.
Information Governance and Confidentiality
Handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately at all times. in line with information governance, data protection and security policies.
Ensure compliance with organisational standards relating to confidentiality and data integrity.
Administrative and Operational Support
Provide day‑to‑day administrative support to the People Systems team or wider department.
Respond to ad‑hoc administrative requests to support the smooth and efficient operation of the team.
Maintain clear, accurate and up‑to‑date documentation for data processes and systems.
Support administrative activity for internal communications, including newsletters.
Collaboration and Ways of Working
Work supportively and sensitively with colleagues, assisting them to adopt new or unfamiliar systems, processes or solutions.
Attend team meetings and contribute to shared objectives and continuous improvement activities.
Work independently and collaboratively, prioritising tasks effectively to meet service and organisational needs.
About You
The successful candidate will demonstrate a consistently high standard of accuracy and attention to detail, alongside the ability to communicate technical information in a clear, concise and logical way. They will approach their work with kindness, compassion and empathy, remaining calm, efficient and professional under pressure while maintaining perspective and a sense of humour.
You will be confident engaging with a wide range of customers, taking time to understand their needs and supporting them in the use and understanding of a variety of interconnected systems. You will be comfortable working with users, tailoring your communication to different levels of IT knowledge and experience while delivering an excellent standard of customer service.
The role requires a high level of integrity and discretion. You must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately, with a clear understanding of data integrity, confidentiality and security requirements, and a commitment to complying with relevant policies and procedures.
You will be flexible and well organised in your approach to work, able to manage competing priorities effectively and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a wider team. The role involves predominantly remote working, with occasional visits to the Westminster, London office, and requires prolonged periods of keyboard use.
Essential skills and experience include:
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly when explaining technical concepts

Confidence using Microsoft Excel functions
Experience creating clear, professional documentation using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
Comfortable working remotely for the majority of the time, with occasional office attendance
Able to work effectively both as part of a team and under own direction
