A bit about the role
As National Safeguarding Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal leadership role within the UK Safeguarding Team, overseeing the delivery of safeguarding across The Scout Association in the UK and selected overseas Scouting branches. The team is responsible for responding to safeguarding and welfare concerns and allegations, as well as ensuring safe recruitment and ongoing vetting of volunteers.
Safeguarding is a golden thread that runs through everything we do in Scouting. This role helps ensure safe, inclusive and positive experiences for young people and volunteers at every level — from local activities to major national and international events such as the World Scout Jamboree.
You will lead and support a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture that is collaborative, reflective and professionally challenging. The Safeguarding Team is known for being welcoming, inclusive and supportive, with visible leadership, regular peer and management supervision, and a strong emphasis on shared learning and continuous improvement.
With colleagues drawn from backgrounds including social work, education, law enforcement and the charity sector, the team brings a rich diversity of experience and expertise. As National Safeguarding Operations Manager, you will help harness this collective knowledge, support professional development, and ensure the safeguarding service continues to evolve in line with best practice and the changing needs of society.
