Location: This is a remote working role, with monthly in-person team meetings which take place in London or Birmingham. Due to additional in-person events and meetings, as appropriate to the role and usually in London, the Fundraiser should be either based in London or within commutable distance.

Working hours: Part-time role (24 hours per week)

Salary: £35,000 per annum, pro-rata

    We are dynamic and responsive to the needs of the dance sector, delivering a range of bespoke services including retraining grants, individual coaching sessions, mentoring, networking, and professional development and wellbeing workshops. We also deliver customised programmes for our Partner Companies, vocational dance schools and Conservatoires, and for freelance Hip Hop dance artists.

    We engage with hundreds of dancers each year, with demand for support from independent dancers regularly outstripping resources available. We aim to significantly increase our income in order to meet the increase in demand for our services.

    DCD’s Fundraiser will work closely with the Executive Director and be instrumental in increasing fundraised and revenue income.

    Our ideal candidate will be a creative thinker with an open mindset to propose and explore new avenues of fundraising and income streams. This role is ideally suited to a self-starter with a passion for the performing arts, who is motivated to make a tangible difference to the quality of dancers’ lives.

    The Fundraiser will support the Executive Director to realise DCD’s ambitious fundraising targets across all development areas, including but not limited to: Trusts & Foundations, individual giving, campaigns, events, earned income and legacies.

    DCD is a remote working organisation, so the post-holder will need to be able to work comfortably from home.

    Purpose of Role

    The charity’s development function is responsible for delivering more than half of DCD’s annual revenue, currently circa £350,000. The immediate focus of the role will be to deliver a step change in fundraising activity through revenue innovation, cultivation and stewardship of individual donors, and engaging with Trusts & Foundations not currently engaged with DCD.

    The post holder will play a significant role in helping to maintain and develop excellent relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, working collaboratively with DCD staff and Trustees.


    The Fundraiser will work collaboratively with the Executive Director, DCD staff and Trustees to generate new revenue streams to ensure the long-term financial resilience of the charity. The post holder will be instrumental in cultivating and embedding a fundraising culture and mindset across the organisation.

    Key Relationships

    As a member of DCD’s small remote working team, you will work closely with colleagues across the organisation to fulfil your role, in particular with DCD’s Executive Director, Marketing & Communications Manager and Relationship Managers.

    The post holder will be the main point of contact and responsible for maintaining regular contact with existing donors and work with the Executive Director to cultivate and nurture relationships with new funders.
    Key Responsibilities

    GENERAL

     Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement DCD’s development strategy.  Identify, engage and expand DCD’s network of philanthropic prospects who have the greatest propensity to support its mission, in liaison with the Executive Director.

     Research and explore alternative revenue streams, working with the commercial arts sector, funders and businesses as appropriate.

     Support the Executive Director to develop and manage DCD’s relationship with Arts Council England, including applications and reporting as applicable.  Work closely with DCD’s Executive

    Director and Marketing & Communications Manager, to develop a compelling narrative and case for support and ensure this is widely communicated to the charity’s staff, volunteers and external stakeholders.  Develop a deep understanding and appreciation of DCD’s specific place within the sector and develop joint fundraising initiatives with partners as appropriate.

     Maintain a high profile for DCD by attending key events, including evening and occasional weekend functions, to identify new opportunities and build relationships with a range of stakeholders.

    INDIVIDUAL GIVING

     With support from the Executive Director and Trustees, identify potential donors and develop personalised giving journeys which reflect each donor’s interest.  Cultivate DCD’s individual giving pipeline and steward its donor portfolio to solicit regular gifts.

     Work closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager to engage with DCD’s international alumni network, to cultivate regular giving and legacy prospects.

     Promote DCD’s living legacy initiative, amongst supporters and former DCD beneficiaries.

    TRUSTS AND FOUNDATIONS

    Mange DCD’s Trusts & Foundations portfolio, ensuring the annual cycle of applications and reports are submitted promptly and all terms, conditions and requirements are met; including:

     Work closely with colleagues to produce applications to funders, making a wellresearched and evidence-based case for support, providing accurate data and compelling case studies.  Mange the communications with Trusts and Foundations representatives, providing progress reports on grant deliverables and updates on DCD’s achievements.

     Ensure evaluation requirements are integrated into funded programmes from the outset and that reports are concise and accurate: outlining the impact of supporter’s funding in line with grant award agreement and delivered in a timely manner.   Research and identify prospective funders, setting up meetings for and with the Executive Director to discuss propensity for funding requests.  Work closely with Relationship Managers to be fully cognisant of current and emerging services and projects and where possible create attractive funding packages around these.

    EVENT MANAGEMENT

     Work with DCD colleagues to create an annual programme of varied and engaging stewardship events for supporters, to incentivise regular giving and encourage them to introduce prospective new donors to the work of DCD.

     Manage events from design phase to completion, with support from colleagues,

    including but not limited to managing the guest list, logistics, curation, all aspects of health and safety, and post event communications.

    COMPLIANCE & REPORTING

    DCD has a CRM database and utilises the Enthuse fundraising platform. The post holder will:

    Maintain and manage DCD’s fundraising platform.

    Ensure complete records of supporters and prospects are captured accurately, and tagged appropriately, on the CRM system.

    Initiate and coordinate fundraising via alternative platforms e.g. Easyfundraising. Ensure all necessary systems, policies and procedures are in place to enable fundraising to be carried out efficiently, ethically and in a coordinated manner.  Work within DCD’s Ethical Fundraising

    Policy, in accordance with the

    Fundraising Regulator and government guidelines at all times, ensuring gifts are processed in accordance with charities SORP and conducting due diligence on potential donors as required.  Maintain excellent knowledge of charitable and arts sector fundraising trends, regulation and compliance, disseminating information to staff and Trustees as appropriate.  Maintain high standards in financial processes and record-keeping, including

    the administration of Gift Aid declarations, processing of payments and GDPR compliant records of personal data.  Be responsible for monitoring progress against targets and providing reports to the Board and Finance, Audit & Risk Committee on a quarterly basis.

    CAMPAIGNS

     Working closely with the Executive

    Director and Marketing & Communications Manager, design and manage innovative and dynamic fundraising campaigns to publicly raise awareness of DCD and develop and diversify our supporters.

     Working with the Marketing & Communications Manager create mailing lists and develop copy to promote campaigns via email and across DCD’s social media platforms.  Keep accurate records of all donations, ensuring donors are appropriately thanked for their support and Gift Aid permissions captured.  Support and encourage dancers delivering fundraising campaigns on behalf of DCD, working with the Marketing & Communications Manager to help promote their projects.

    REQUIREMENTS OF ALL DCD STAFF

     Contribute ideas to develop DCD’s services and business model, to evolve the charity and support dancers.  Comply with legal, statutory and DCD legislation and policies, inc. EDI, GDPR and Safeguarding.  Role model exemplary behaviour, upholding DCD’s values, and act as DCD ambassador at all times.  Able to work remotely and collaboratively, interacting regularly with team online and in meetings.  Have a flexible approach, with a willingness to undertake other duties as reasonably requested.

     Participate in DCD meetings, training and professional development opportunities as appropriate.
