Finance Reporting and Controls Manager

Working hours: 37 per week

Salary: Circa £52,530 per annum

  • About this role: 

    We’re looking for an experienced and detail-driven Finance Reporting & Controls Manager to play a key role in leading our finance operations. Acting as Deputy to the Head of Finance, you’ll take ownership of ledger integrity, financial controls, and reporting, ensuring our finance function delivers accurate, reliable, and timely outputs. 

    This is an exciting opportunity to combine hands-on financial oversight with process improvement and team leadership in a fully remote environment. 

    Key Responsibilities: 

    • Oversee all core finance operations including general ledger, purchase ledger, sales ledger, banking, and balance sheet processes 

    • Act as Deputy to the Head of Finance, supporting decision-making and operational leadership 

    • Review and authorise bank payments, ensuring strong controls and compliance are maintained 

    • Produce accurate monthly and ad hoc financial reports, reconciliations, and working papers 

    • Lead improvements to reporting and financial processes, leveraging Excel and Power Query 

    • Contribute to finance system enhancements and migrations, maintaining data integrity and controls 

    • (Post-probation) Line manage and support three finance team members 

    What you will deliver: 

    • Robust and accurate financial reporting aligned to month-end and year-end timelines 

    • Well-controlled, compliant financial processes with clear audit trails 

    • Improved efficiency through automation and enhanced reporting tools 

    • Strong operational oversight in a fully remote working environment 

    About you: 

    We’re looking for someone who combines technical expertise with strong judgement and a proactive approach to continuous improvement. 

    Essential: 

    • Fully qualified accountant (or equivalent experience) 

    • Strong experience in financial accounting, including ledgers, reconciliations, and controls 

    • Advanced Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables, formulas, data manipulation) with experience creating Power Queries 

    • Demonstrated ability to produce accurate financial reports and maintain strong audit trails 

    • Experience working in a controlled financial environment with a high level of accuracy 

    Desirable: 

    • Experience within the charity sector, including knowledge of Charities SORP 

    • Experience of working in a mainly grant funded charity 

    • Experience managing or supervising staff, ideally in a remote setting 

    • Involvement in finance system implementation or transformation projects
