    About the role 

    The Deputy Head of ECF Faculty plays a key role in helping NIoT deliver high-quality, evidence-informed professional development programmes. Working closely with the Head of ECF Faculty, this role is pivotal to the design, implementation and continuous improvement of programmes, ensuring that research and sector insight shape delivery, and building strong relationships with partners across the education sector. The role also helps maintain quality standards, supports recruitment and retention, and contributes to consistent, excellent delivery that advances NIoT’s mission to improve teacher and leader development.

     Main Duties & Key Responsibilities 

    • To contribute to design and review of content and materials on programmes 

    • To develop and maintain strong relationships with partners across the sector to support marketing and recruitment to the suite of programmes within the faculty 

    • To communicate with NIOT teams across England to ensure consistently excellent delivery and messaging 

    • To implement outstanding programmes in response to sector need, research insights, regional feedback qualitative and quantitative data.  

    • Embed research insights into the fabric of programmes and ensuring the implementation is evaluated.  

    • Feed into dissemination and communication activities to inform the sector  

    • Harness the insight of programme members to feed into and shape research into leadership programmes.  

    • Lead the implementation of continuous improvement of the relevant programmes.  

    • Embed the facilitator development framework across ECF faculty programmes and guide the continuous improvement.   

    • To lead the effective implementation of faculty related digital platform developments.  

    • To deputise for, and partner with, the Head of ECF Faculty as required, including being a point of support/escalation for regional teams and associate colleges.  

    • Develop systems for new programme development, procurement and implementation   

    • To inform and implement the cycle of performance review, including the SEF and regular DfE reviews of progress, including e.g. Ofsted  

    • To support the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information concerning ECF programmes, demonstrating key impacts, progress and intervention.  

    • To triangulate and evaluate the impact of programmes via participant and partner feedback.  

    • To support the QA of provision and ensure that programmes meet statutory requirements and quality standards. 

    • To keep up to date with national developments in teaching and leadership development practice and methodology.  

    • To support recruitment and retention to all programmes within the Faculty.   

    • To represent the NIoT’s views and interests.

    Essential Criteria 

    • A commitment to the aims of the National Institute of Teaching.  

    • A deep commitment to turning insights from schools and leaders into actionable programme activities.  

    • Strong background in and knowledge of the English education system 

    • Experience of school teaching or leadership 

    • A clear focus on ensuring research is used at every stage to inform programme improvements and dissemination to the sector.  

    • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.  

    • Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills.  

    • Proficient in the use of MS Office software packages, such as Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as search engines and online databases.  

    • Honours Degree and Postgraduate qualification (or equivalent)   

    • An understanding of adult learner motivation.   

    • An understanding of how professional development contributes to the raising of quality of teaching and pupil outcomes for the most disadvantaged communities.   

    • Proven strong, effective leadership and people management skills.   

    • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders.   

    • Good understanding & recent experiences of Ofsted processes and inspection framework.   

    • The ability to think and plan strategically.   

    • The ability to make sound judgements based on objective criteria.    

    • Ability to analyse and interpret data and set challenging targets.   

    • Skills in financial planning and budget management.   

    Desirable Criteria 

    • A strong understanding of quality assurance techniques.   

    • Knowledge and understanding of national policy and school priorities, current curriculum developments and an ability to design and implement innovative leadership programmes.   

    • Experience of external stakeholder management in the context of a national organisation with a regional and local footprint  

    • Experience of working with children at reception age, or with additional/special educational needs or disabilities. 

    • Experience of working with management information systems (MIS), learning management systems (LMS) and customer relationships management (CRM) systems.   

    Working at the National Institute of Teaching 

    Contract: Permanent, Full Time  (0.8 FTE will be considered for the right candidate)

    Salary: £60,886 per annum plus benefits (plus London weighting and benefits)
