Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. We’re determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. We support and fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
We currently have around 100 staff based in England, Wales Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Job summary
We’re looking for a dynamic, multi-skilled Creative and Content Officer to bring our charity’s mission to life through compelling visual storytelling and thoughtful content design.
You’ll work across teams – Policy and Influencing, Services, Fundraising, Partnerships and Philanthropy, and Research – to produce high-impact content that drives engagement, inspires action, and amplifies our voice.
This role is primarily focused on graphic design, taking written content developed by others and transforming it into engaging, accessible, and brand-aligned visual materials across print and digital platforms. From filming and editing videos to designing pitch decks and paid ads, you’ll be at the heart of our creative output, helping us communicate complex ideas with clarity, emotion, and purpose.
We’re also looking for someone who can suggest light edits to supplied copy, such as refining headlines, subheadings or text hierarchy, to help ensure the content is as clear and engaging as possible for the intended audience.
Main responsibilities
Support the Creative and Content Manager to develop and implement the organisation’s content strategy and planning
Help ensure content and creative materials are high quality, meet the needs of different communication channels and audiences, meet accessibility standards, and are effectively evaluated
Support the Creative and Content Manager to implement brand guidelines, ensuring our visual identity, messaging, tone of voice and style are used appropriately and consistently in communication materials
Provide brand, content production, copywriting and proofreading guidance to other teams
Work to a brief to produce content and assets for internal and external audiences, including video, photography, animation, podcasts, social graphics, design and print, whether self-produced, produced within the team, or working with external suppliers
Work to a brief to produce creative design work across different formats for internal and external audiences, including inhouse production and working with external suppliers for more complex projects
Help manage our Digital Asset Management System, ensuring assets are easy to find and use, kept up to date or archived, and that we’re meeting privacy and data protection responsibilities
Keep up to date with the latest trends and developments in content production. Share knowledge and contribute to idea generation activities

Person specification
Qualifications and experience
Experience in graphic design across both print and digital formats, including social media and paid advertising
A strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to transform written content into clear, engaging, and accessible visual materials
Hands-on experience in video production: filming, editing, and post-production
Experience in working to brand guidelines and contributing to the development of creative concepts that support key messages and campaign goals
A track record in managing content production processes, including preparing artwork for print and digital use, and managing feedback and sign-off stages
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Essential
Strong graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects), along with experience in Canva, to create engaging content across multiple channels
Understanding of content design for clarity, accessibility, and user needs
Confidence in reviewing and lightly editing supplied copy (e.g., headlines, subheadings, text hierarchy) to enhance clarity and readability for the intended audience
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Attention to detail, with ability to refine copy for readability
Good planning and organisational skills; able to manage multiple projects
Willingness to learn new tools and adapt to changing needs
Desirable
Experience working in the charity or non-profit sector
Experience of sourcing, setting up and briefing external agencies and freelancers, and managing the production and sign off process with such external partners
Familiarity with project management tools such as Trello
Experience using a Digital Asset Management System (DAMS)
Knowledge of SEO and digital marketing principles
