Location: Home-based with regular travel to Fire Fighter Charity’s centres and other locations as required

Working hours: Full-Time

Salary: £45,000 To £50,000 Per Year

    If so, this is an exciting opportunity to join The Fire Fighters Charity as our new Volunteering Manager - a pivotal role leading the national direction of volunteering across our organisation.

    About the Role

    As our Volunteering Manager, you will be the driving force behind a volunteering strategy that supports our mission to champion the health and wellbeing of the fire services community.

    You’ll lead the design and delivery of a high‑quality, inclusive volunteer experience that attracts, engages and supports volunteers across the UK. From shaping new volunteering models to strengthening partnerships, improving systems and celebrating volunteer contribution, your work will be at the heart of building a thriving, empowered volunteer community.

    This is a role for someone who loves innovation, values collaboration and is excited by the opportunity to influence culture at an organisational level.

    What You’ll Lead On

    • Developing and delivering our organisation‑wide volunteering strategy

    • Designing an exceptional, end‑to‑end volunteer journey

    • Growing and diversifying our volunteer community

    • Embedding volunteering into service delivery and strategic planning

    • Using data, insight and feedback to continually improve impact

    • Supporting staff to work confidently and effectively with volunteers

    • Leading engagement, recognition and volunteer development initiatives

    • Acting as an ambassador for volunteering internally and externally

     

    What You’ll Bring

    We’re looking for someone with:

     

    • Strong experience in volunteer management and volunteer strategy implementation within the charity or wellbeing sectors

    • A track record of designing and improving volunteer programmes

    • The ability to build positive, values‑led relationships with volunteers and staff

    • Confident leadership, communication and influencing skills

    • A strategic mindset backed by practical delivery

    • A commitment to inclusion, wellbeing and continuous improvement

    • Solid understanding of safeguarding, data protection and good governance

    The Selection Process

    Our selection process will consist of two stages:

    Stage 1 – Virtual Interview
     Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a first‑stage interview via Microsoft Teams on 2 April 2026.

    Stage 2 – In‑Person Interview
     Candidates successful at Stage 1 will be invited to a face‑to‑face interview in London on 10 April 2026.
