What you'll be doing
Go.Compare are seeking a Senior QA Automation Engineer, you will partner closely with the Lead QA to evolve and execute our overarching Test Strategy. Embedded within a cross-functional engineering Squad, you will champion quality from day one, driving the creation of robust automated test suites to support our PCW platform and services.
We continually champion a "shift-left" philosophy. You won't just test software at the end; you will drive early conversations with Product Owners and developers to define acceptance criteria and test coverage before a single line of feature code is written. You will be the squad's go-to expert for automation best practices, code reviews, defect identification, and end-to-end data integrity.
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve
Core QA & Automation Expertise
Playwright Champion: Solid, hands-on experience building test suites and maintaining automation frameworks using Playwright (JavaScript/TypeScript).
API & Backend Testing: Proven ability to test APIs and backend services, write SQL queries, utilise tools like Postman, and create automated test suites.
CI/CD & DevOps: An understanding of Git, Azure DevOps, and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipelines, with a clear vision of how QA integrates into modern DevOps practices.
Awareness of Asynchronous Architecture: Conceptual or hands-on understanding of message queues like Service Bus. You don’t need to be an expert, but understanding why testing asynchronous publishers and/or subscribers require a different test approach from traditional synchronous APIs and how to validate them would put you ahead of the curve.
Strategy & Leadership
Shift-Left Champion: A proven track record in agile environments, using "shift-left" practices to uncover potential issues early in the lifecycle.
Test Design & Data: Expert-level ability to translate Product Owner requirements and Acceptance Criteria into concrete test conditions, edge-case scenarios, and robust test data.
Technical Consultant: Comprehensive knowledge of both functional and non-functional testing, with the communication skills to guide your squad on what to test and why.
Mindset & Innovation
Problem Solver: Tenacious, detail-oriented, and inherently curious when debugging complex systems.
Pragmatic AI Adoption: A forward-thinking mindset eager to leverage AI to optimize QA workflows and knowledge sharing, balanced with a strict adherence to data governance, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance.
