Music Services Manager

Salary: £38,626 – £41,511, pro-rata

  • Role overview

    This role is responsible for Amber’s Music Services: Little Amber, AmberPlus, With Music in Mind, and Amber Together. The postholder will be confident and sensitive when liaising with the families of children with a range of disabilities, including those with profound and multiple learning difficulties. A commitment to ensuring Amber’s Safeguarding and GDPR principles are adhered to is essential.

    We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in music and working with children and families. The role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within our small and friendly core team, whilst managing a cohort of freelance music practitioners across the UK.

    Main duties and responsibilities

    Programme management

    · To provide initial point of contact for all Music Services.

    · To contract manage freelance practitioners working on Little Amber, AmberPlus, With Music in Mind, and Amber Together.

    · To co-ordinate the pairing of children and families with music practitioners in their local area.

    · To find appropriate settings for Amber Together and liaise with setting staff.

    · To manage Amber’s monthly online family group sessions.

    · To lead on recruiting new practitioners and assist the Music Awards Manager with sourcing music teachers when appropriate.

    · To ensure Amber’s music practitioner handbook is up to date and reviewed regularly.

    · To liaise with music practitioners to ensure visits are booked, annual reports are completed, and invoices received and processed.

    · To travel to observe Music Services sessions as part of ongoing monitoring and evaluation for impact purposes.

    · To review participant annual reports, Sounds of Intent assessments and feedback constructively.

    · To proactively arrange and manage Amber children’s Trinity Awards and Certificates in Musical Development as required in liaison with their Amber practitioner.

    Programme development

    · To ensure that music practitioners are supported and working effectively and according to Amber’s vision and established policies.

    · To organise training events for practitioners in consultation with the CEO.

    · To support the development of good practice by keeping up to date with new techniques and policy shifts and develop new ideas for delivery methods.

    · To work with schools, VI services, councils, hospitals, charities, and any other relevant agencies regarding Music Service provision.

    · To develop Amber’s Music Services as necessary in response to demand from beneficiaries.

    Communications

    · To source case studies for funders and for Amber reports.

    · To liaise with Amber’s Communications Officers on content creation for the website, e-newsletter, and social media.

    Administration

    · To liaise with the Music Administrator to ensure resources are sent to relevant applicants in a timely manner.

    · To ensure Music Services data and financial information is up to date and accurate using Amber’s systems such as Microsoft Office 365 and Salesforce.

    Meetings and reports

    · Organise and lead Music Services Committee meetings three times per year.

    · Collate all applications for review at Music Services Committee meetings.

    · Collate financial information and reports for Little Amber, AmberPlus, With Music in Mind, and Amber Together.

    · Collect feedback and continue to develop Amber’s systems of monitoring and evaluation.

    · Lead on data gathering and evaluation for the Paul Hamlyn Foundation (Funder of Amber Together).

    · Contribute to reports and updates as required for Trustees and other funders.

    · Provide supporting information for funding applications as required by the CEO.

    Safeguarding

    · To be Amber’s Designated Safeguarding Person (DSP) and work alongside the designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to maintain best safeguarding practice across the organisation.

    · To carry out necessary safeguarding checks when contracting new practitioners.

    · To co-ordinate three Safeguarding Meetings per year to review systems and policies.

    · Keep appropriate records about any safeguarding allegations or issues and work with the DSL to gather information and report to appropriate authorities as needed.

    General

    · Become an ambassador for Amber, always contributing to the charity’s aims.

    · Assist with the development of Amber’s resources.

    · Handle general enquiries by email and by phone as required.

    · Assist with fundraising and awareness-raising events.

    · Contribute meaningfully to regular team meetings both online and in person.

    · Any other duties as reasonably determined by the CEO.

    Person specification

    Please note all criteria are essential unless otherwise stated.

    1. Education

    1.1 Educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in music, education, SEN or similar.

    1.2 Desirable: Post Graduate Certificate in Sounds of Intent.

    2. Experience

    2.1 Experience of working with children with disabilities, preferably blind and partially sighted children including those who are neurodivergent, those with severe learning disabilities, and profound and multiple disabilities.

    2.2 Experience of working with children and families in the community.

    2.3 Experience of managing freelance arts practitioners.

    2.4 Experience of working with schools, partner organisations, charities, and professionals.

    2.5 Desirable: Experience of working creatively and musically with children who have vision impairment, including those who are neurodivergent, those with severe learning disabilities, and profound and multiple disabilities.

    2.6 Desirable: An understanding and practical experience of using the Sounds of Intent framework.

    2.7 Desirable: Experience in the contracting of freelance musicians and practitioners.

    2.8 Desirable: Experience of organising events e.g. training, seminars, conferences.

    4.1 The ability to work sensitively with families of children with a vision impairment, including those with additional disabilities.

    4.2 Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak confidently with a wide range of people.

    4.3 IT literacy including a strong understanding of Microsoft Office 365 suite.

    5. Other

    5.1 A clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.

    5.2 Knowledge and appreciation of the principles of GDPR.

    5.3 Use of own transport and willingness to travel.

    5.4 Flexibility in working hours.

    5.5 Commitment to equality and diversity, treating people from all backgrounds with respect and dignity.

    5.6 Desirable: Knowledge of and the ability to maintain databases using a CRM such as Salesforce.

    The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.

    The post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced (working with children) DBS check.
