Individual Giving Manager (London)

Salary: c £42k per annum subject to skills and experience

  • Purpose of the role

    This is an exciting opportunity to join SPANA’s Income Generation department at a time of growth for the organisation. As Individual Giving Manager, you’ll play a key role in developing and delivering SPANA’s committed giving programme and multi-channel retention campaigns, including stewardship and value exchange activities. Working closely with the Head of Individual Giving, you’ll help shape strategic plans across UK and international markets, driving income growth to expand SPANA’s global impact.

    You’ll also line manage the Individual Giving Executive and deputise for the Head of Individual Giving when required.

    Key responsibilities 

    Area 1: Campaign and programme management

    • Manage the development and delivery of SPANA’s regular giving programme, both

    in the UK and in global markets, using market insight and learnings to continually

    ensure optimal performance of the programme. Includes SPANA’s sponsorship

    product and text-to-give activities.

    • Manage the development and delivery of SPANA’s virtual gift activity in the UK and

    global markets across online and offline channels. Ensure all activities are aligned

    with the fundraising strategy, with clear target audiences and ambitious but

    achievable targets.

    • Work closely with agencies and suppliers to manage the design and development of

    donor marketing campaigns and activities from concept through to evaluation.

    Ensure that all materials produced are within SPANA’s brand guidelines.

    • Manage the production and delivery of newsletters and other stewardship mailings

    across UK and global markets. This includes ensuring all activities are delivered on

    time and to agreed income targets, meeting key deadlines for direct marketing

    campaigns such as print, mailing, and supporter communications.

    • Work with the Digital Fundraising Manager to develop effective digital support for

    campaigns and the successful operation of SPANA’s webshop.

    • Collaborate with SPANA’s Communications and Digital Engagement teams to align

    Individual Giving activities with brand campaigns and leverage digital opportunities

    across web and social media to grow supporter engagement and income.

     

    Area 2: Monitoring, evaluation and reporting

    • Monitor and analyse Individual Giving KPIs to identify key trends and opportunities

    for optimisation, ensuring performance against agreed targets.

    • Produce comprehensive end-of-campaign reports for assigned activities, evaluating

    results and applying insights to enhance future campaign performance.

    • Deliver regular attrition analysis for the committed giving programme, identifying

    trends and providing actionable recommendations to improve supporter retention.

     

    Area 3: Strategic support and financial planning 

    • Support the Head of Individual Giving in strategic development of the Individual

    Giving programme, including piloting and evaluating new fundraising initiatives.

    • Produce forecasting for relevant projects, using historical data to inform budgets

    and set ambitious but achievable KPI targets.

    • Play an active role in the annual budgeting and planning process, preparing income

    and expenditure projections, sourcing supplier quotes, and ensuring robust financial

    planning.

    General responsibilities

    • Provide supportive and effective line management to the Individual Giving

    Executive.

    • Deputise for the Head of Individual Giving as required.

    • Represent the charity on internal and external groups, such as the Together For

    Animals Marketing Group, as required.

    In addition, undertake any other duty or responsibility that may reasonably be required for

    this role. 

    International travel may be required based on business needs. The frequency and duration

    of travel will vary depending on project demands and organisational requirements.

    Person Specification

    Knowledge and Education

    • Demonstrable understanding and experience of marketing techniques, including

    audience and donor segmentation, analytical modelling, and the use of insight to

    drive performance.

    • Comprehensive understanding of fundraising principles and activities relevant to

    Individual Giving programmes.

    Experience and Skills

    • Experience of managing donor marketing strategies, plans, programmes,

    campaigns and activities.

    • Experience of managing and reporting on direct mail and fundraising appeals.

    • Line management or equivalent experience.

    • Experience of managing and motivating external agencies to produce high-quality,

    insight-driven work. 

    • Excellent attention to detail and quality assurance skills, including proof-reading. 

    • Excellent numerical skills and ability to analyse results. 

    • Ability to interpret and define data requirements, including audience selections and

    segmentation, to inform and enhance fundraising campaigns.

     

    Personal Attributes

    • Excellent organiser with the ability to plan, manage and lead a variety of projects

    and activities to tight deadlines. 

    • Strong communicator – both written and verbal – with demonstrable ability to

    develop strong cases for support. 

    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop good working relationships with

    colleagues and other departments, as well as external suppliers.

    • Highly innovative with the ability to spot emerging trends, draw inspiration from the wider market and apply creative thinking to rest and refine new fundraising

    initiatives.

    • A commitment to SPANA’s mission to transform the welfare of working animals. 

    Desirable Criteria

    • Experience working within a charity or not-for-profit environment.

    • Copywriting experience.

    • Knowledge of working with database software, ideally Raisers Edge.

    • Experience of campaign data selections.

    Applicants must have the right to work in the UK currently and for the duration of the

    contract.
