We are seeking a visionary, empathetic, and highly organised Subject Leader for Wellbeing to lead, develop, and deliver a world-class Wellbeing curriculum tailored specifically for the online learning environment.
In addition to duties associated with other roles they hold, Subject Leaders have responsibilities that include to:
Strategic Direction
Develop and implement policies for the subject in line with MVA’s commitment to high-quality teaching and learning.
Promote the subject, its importance, and the value it brings across the school.
Have a good understanding of how well the subject is being delivered and the impact it has on students’ development
Be up to date with statutory regulations and ensure our programme is in line with these requirements
Identify appropriate external opportunities that may be of interest to students and promote them where appropriate.
Consult students, parents and staff about the subject and its effectiveness in line with school policies, and assess the feedback against the school’s values, vision and aims.
Work with the SENDCo to ensure the curriculum and the way it is taught matches the needs of students with different or additional needs.
Promote careers education through the subject and ensure that teaching and learning illustrates how the subject might lead to career opportunities.
Role Purpose
As the Head of Wellbeing, you will be the strategic lead and driving force behind our Wellbeing curriculum across all key stages. You will design and implement a dynamic, engaging, and statutory-compliant program that addresses the unique challenges and opportunities faced by online learners (such as digital citizenship, mental health, and screen-life balance).
You will lead a team of tutors/teachers, champion mental health initiatives school-wide, and ensure our students are equipped with the emotional resilience and life skills to thrive in a digital world.
Key Responsibilities
1. Curriculum Leadership & Design
Innovate and Develop: Design, review, and evolve our comprehensive Wellbeing curriculum from Years 7 - 13 ensuring it meets all UK statutory requirements for RSHE (Relationships, Sex, and Health Education).
Digital Adaptation: Translate traditional PSHE concepts into interactive, engaging, and impactful online lessons, utilise multimedia, and ensure asynchronous resources are high-quality; monitor VLP course content regularly and provide feedback to Curriculum Content Creators to identify training needs and provide continuing professional development in the subject.
Resource Creation: Produce outstanding schemes of work, lesson plans, and digital resources that promote critical thinking and open discussion in a safe online environment.
Support Teaching and Learning: Monitor teaching and learning by observing lessons, providing feedback to staff based to identify training needs and provide continuing professional development in the subject; gain feedback from students and parents to assess how impactful the subject is across the school.
2. Teaching & Delivery
Model Excellence: Deliver high-quality live Wellbeing lessons, demonstrating exemplary online pedagogy and student engagement strategies.
Safe Spaces: Establish clear ground rules for online discussions, ensuring a culture of respect, inclusivity, and psychological safety.
Assessment: Implement meaningful ways to monitor and assess student progress and engagement in Wellbeing
3. Team Leadership & Collaboration
Upskill Staff: Train and support subject teachers in delivering Wellbeing content and facilitating sensitive discussions online; deliver training to Mentors and/or subject teachers on issues relevant to their role
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Safeguarding Team and Mental Health Team to ensure the Wellbeing curriculum proactively addresses current student trends, safeguarding risks, and pastoral needs.
Community Engagement: Lead workshops and create resources for students, staff and parents/carers, helping them navigate modern challenges such as online safety and mental health.
Careers and Lifelong Learning: Liaise with the Careers Leader to ensure students are provided with the opportunity to develop and use their self-knowledge when thinking about and making choices and develop the skills they need to review achievements, plan future actions, make decisions, present themselves well and cope with change and transition.

Qualifications and Requirements:
● Bachelor's degree in the subject or related field; Master's degree preferred.
● Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and significant teaching experience in the subject.
● Proven leadership skills with experience in curriculum development and instructional leadership.
● Strong understanding of assessment principles and strategies for improving student outcomes.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
● Commitment to continuous improvement and staying abreast of educational trends and best practices.
As this is a remote role, you will be required to have a suitable home-working set-up, which should include a laptop.
