The Pensions Calculations Lead is a specialist role providing senior technical leadership in the design, solutioning and delivery of complex pension benefit calculations within large-scale programmes of work supporting the implementation of and change for complex pension schemes. The role operates as a senior calculation authority within the implementation and calculation teams, owning complex calculation problem-solving, specification, testing and assurance across major projects, and influencing outcomes through deep technical expertise rather than formal authority.Job title:

Job Description:
Key Accountabilities
Act as a senior SME for complex UK pension benefit calculations, providing authoritative interpretation of scheme rules, discretionary practices and legislation.
Design and recommend robust calculation methodologies for complex, ambiguous or high-risk benefit scenarios.
Lead the calculation-focused solutioning and delivery of defined workstreams within large-scale programmes, including transitions, migrations, remedy and benefit correction exercises.
Lead or assure the production of clear, testable calculation specifications and define appropriate testing strategies.
Provide senior assurance of calculation outputs, defect resolution and reconciliation activities, including workstream-level sign-off in line with governance frameworks.
Identify and manage calculation-related risks, assumptions and dependencies, escalating where decisions exceed agreed authority.
Define calculation-critical data requirements and work with data specialists to ensure data supports accurate benefit calculation.
Ensure calculation solutions are operable within the target administration platform and operating model.
Act as a trusted calculation advisor to delivery leadership, clients and internal stakeholders, clearly explaining complex issues to non-technical audiences.
Contribute expert calculation input to discovery, feasibility and bid solution design activities under Director oversight.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
Deep practitioner-level expertise in UK pension benefit calculations.
Proven experience delivering complex calculation solutions in large-scale or high-risk environments.
Strong understanding of scheme rules, legislative interpretation and historical benefit complexity.
Experience leading calculation specification, testing and assurance with minimal supervision.
Desirable:
Experience of rectification or large-scale benefit correction programmes.
Exposure to calculation engines, automation or rule-based calculation tooling.
Experience supporting transitions, migrations or complex implementation programmes.
Personal Attributes:
Highly analytical with strong professional judgement.
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and complexity.
Credible advisor to senior stakeholders through expertise.
Collaborative, pragmatic and delivery-focused.
Willing to challenge constructively to protect calculation integrity.
