    About Koru Kids

At Koru Kids we have a triple mission: to support working parents during the hardest years of their life, to give children the best possible childhood to allow them to flourish as adults, and to create really great jobs for childcarers. We’re a marketplace, which means we have two customers: people who look after children and families. The challenge is massive, but our team is really good.

Our business is growing fast and we’ve delivered over 3M hours of childcare. We’re backed by strong investors and top-class VCs. Our culture is informal, hard-working, and kind. The team is an A+ when it comes to talent and our “no dickheads” rule means we’re also a humble and supportive bunch. We’re also really committed to working with integrity, doing the right thing, and building a company we are truly proud of.

    What's it all about?

We’re looking for a hands-on and strategic Finance Lead to own all things finance. You’ll work closely with the COO and Head of Operations to own every aspect of finance, including managing financial operations, building smart forecasts, and delivering reporting that helps the whole business make better decisions. This is a hybrid role combining the rigour of financial operations with strategic thinking and analytical support for decision-making. This is a unique opportunity to develop a high-quality finance function at a mission-driven company.

You’ll be responsible for the financial control framework, reporting cadence, and cash flow management – but also for shaping how we understand our unit economics and make investment decisions. You’ll work closely with leadership and manage external finance providers, while building internal systems for long-term scale.

This role is ideal for someone who is part-qualified or newly qualified and wants a seat at the table while still being happy rolling up their sleeves day to day.

    The Day to Day

9am – Join company standup to stay in sync with what’s happening across the business. You share a quick update on this month’s revenue trends.

10am – Review and reconcile bank transactions from the last few days, preparing weekly cash flow updates for the COO.

11am – A quick call with our external accountant to review VAT submissions and resolve a coding query in Xero.

12pm – Finalise a departmental budget pack for the Marketing team, helping them understand current burn and campaign ROI.

1pm – Grab lunch and stretch your legs – balance is key.

2pm – Jump into a planning session with the Head of Ops to model headcount growth and its financial implications over the next 12 months.

3.30pm – Work on monthly reporting pack, ensuring revenue, gross margin, and operating costs are clearly presented for next week’s board meeting.

4.30pm – Review invoices and expenses submitted this week, flagging any inconsistencies and prepping payroll inputs for approval.

5.30pm – Reflect on the day’s tasks, update your tracker, and outline tomorrow’s top priorities.

    About you

You’re financially savvy and operationally sharp. You like rolling up your sleeves and building great processes – and you know how to communicate numbers clearly and helpfully. You’re pragmatic, detail-oriented and commercially aware. You take ownership and follow through. You love clarity and precision, but you also know when “good enough” gets the job done.

You’ll be great at this job if:

    • You’ve owned or run a finance function in a small, growing business

    • You’re part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) or newly qualified, or have equivalent experience

    • You’re comfortable with Xero and Excel, and curious about improving systems

    • You’ve prepared financial reporting and delivered insights to leadership

    • You can manage budgeting, cash flow, and forecasting

    • You have experience of bookkeeping and managing day to day cash operations

    • You can handle ambiguity, prioritise effectively, and set your own goals

    • You’re a strong communicator and good cross-functional partner who works well with non-finance colleagues

    • You’re reliable and organised – and not afraid to chase down the details

    Bonus if you:

    • Have experience in a startup or venture-backed company

    • Understand marketplaces or SaaS-style unit economics

    • Have supported board or investor reporting

    • Have implemented or integrated finance tools or systems (e.g. Dext, Fathom, ApprovalMax)

    What’s in it for you?

    • Autonomy and influence – You’ll own your domain and shape how finance works here

    • A seat at the table – Work directly with the leadership team and contribute to company strategy

    • Growth runway – This role can scale with you

    • Mission and meaning – Join a team that genuinely cares about improving family life

    Benefits

    • Competitive salary: £45,000–£60,000 depending on experience

    • Hybrid working – choose office or remote

    • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays

    • Workplace pension scheme

    • Health & wellbeing benefits

    • Cycle to work and electric car salary sacrifice schemes

    • Deals & discounts scheme with over 30,000 brands

    • Regular team events & socials

    Process

    • There is a short initial application form.

    • A 60 mins online exercise, which can be done from anywhere and at a time that suits you.

    • After that we’ll be excited to speak to you for a video call with the Head of Operations.

    • The next stage is a case study interview with the CEO.

    • Final candidates will be invited to do an at-home technical task and then have a final chat with the COO.
