  • The Ecological Land Cooperative (ELC) is seeking a thoughtful, strategic, and values-driven Finance Coordinator to help secure the financial resilience of a pioneering land justice organisation.

We widen affordable access to land for ecological farming and low-impact rural livelihoods. We currently steward seven farm sites, supporting 18 small farm businesses, and are owned by a growing community of over 500 members. Our cooperative model offers a practical alternative to speculative land ownership – protecting land in perpetuity for ecological and community benefit.

Sound financial stewardship is essential to this mission.

    That’s where you come in.

    Why this role matters

This is more than a bookkeeping role.

As Finance Coordinator, you will play a senior operational role at the heart of the organisation, ensuring we are financially resilient, legally compliant, and able to make confident strategic decisions.

You will translate financial information into clear insight. You will help our Board and governance circles navigate risk and opportunity. You will ensure that the land we protect remains secure for generations to come.

If you are motivated by combining financial rigour with social and ecological purpose, this role offers rare depth and influence in a small, ambitious organisation.

    What you’ll be responsible for

     Financial Leadership

    • Overseeing all day-to-day financial management (using Xero)

    • Budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial modelling

    • Preparing monthly management accounts for the Board

    • Leading annual accounts and external examination processes

    • Managing share and loan stock interest payments

    • Supporting AGM financial reporting and member transparency

    • Monitoring cashflow and financial risk

    Governance & Compliance

    • Ensuring compliance with financial reporting regulations

    • Supporting the Board and Finance Circle with strategic financial insight

    • Advising on contracts, leases, and rental agreements

    • Overseeing organisational insurance and statutory requirements

     Strategic Planning

    • Leading financial scenario planning and resilience modelling

    • Contributing to Business Plan development

    • Identifying financial risks and opportunities

    • Supporting funder reporting and loan covenant compliance

    Funding & Relationships

    • Working with funders, social investors, and lenders

    • Supporting grant applications with financial data and projections

    • Contributing to organisational sustainability planning

    Who we’re looking for

You may come from the charity sector, social enterprise, cooperative movement, ethical business, or aligned fields. What matters most is that you combine strong financial competence with strategic thinking and alignment with our values.

    You will likely bring:

    • Strong experience managing organisational finances and budgets

    • Confidence preparing management and annual accounts

    • Experience supporting legal and regulatory compliance

    • The ability to interpret contracts and financial agreements

    • Strategic insight and sound judgement

    • The ability to work independently with high autonomy

    • Clear and accessible communication skills

    • Commitment to cooperative principles and ecological values

    Desirable (but not essential):

    • Experience in the environmental or land-based sector

    • Knowledge of cooperative or community benefit society governance

    • Experience working with social investors or member share offers

    • Familiarity with Xero

If you meet most, but not all of the criteria, we warmly encourage you to apply.

    What we offer

    • A permanent, part-time role (18.75 hours / 2.5 days per week, flexible by agreement)

    • £33,560 pro rata (£16,780 actual salary)

    • Up to 4% matched pension contribution

    • A flat pay structure (all workers paid at the same rate)

    • Remote working with occasional travel to Bristol and ELC sites

    • A collaborative sociocratic governance model

    • The opportunity to contribute to systemic change in land ownership
