Olive Branch Fostering is seeking a committed and proactive Education Support Advisor to join our Supported Placements team. This role is central to improving educational outcomes for children and young people in foster care, ensuring they receive timely, appropriate and effective educational support.
You will work closely with Local Authorities, Virtual Schools, foster carers and internal teams to promote stability, engagement and achievement for young people who may be experiencing disruption or barriers to education.
Key Responsibilities:
Education Support & Coordination
Work collaboratively with placing Local Authorities, Olive Branch Fostering staff and foster carers to ensure all children in Supported Placements access suitable education promptly.
Provide direct educational guidance and support when a young person is not currently in school.
Offer advice to foster carers and Supervising Social Workers on educational matters.
Support the Head of Education in building strong relationships with Admissions and SEN teams across local authorities.
Provide schools with information and guidance about the Supported Placements programme.
Plan and deliver support services that promote placement stability and long-term success.
Maintain regular communication with foster carers, Virtual Schools and education providers, attending planning and review meetings as required.
Participate in Education Surgeries to address concerns raised by foster carers.
Maintain accurate records of all Supported Placements, including educational status and updates.
Track and report on young people not currently in education, contributing to monthly reports for the Head of Education.
Ensure compliance with National Minimum Standards and Fostering Regulations.
Attend PEP and EHCP reviews wherever possible.
Communication & Record Keeping
Keep clear, contemporaneous records using digital systems.
Promote open communication with all internal and external stakeholders.
Immediately report any concerns relating to children or foster carers to Supervising Social Workers and the Head of Education.
Reporting & Performance
Participate in performance reviews with the Head of Education.
Conduct regular self-audits of record keeping.
Provide updates on activity, placement trends and development needs.
Additional Duties
Work flexibly in response to the varied nature of fostering work.
Undertake training and development, including the Practice Educator programme.
Adhere to Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and the organisation’s no-smoking policy.
Person SpecificationExperience & Qualifications
Essential:
5 GCSEs (A*–C) including English and Maths.
Minimum 2 years’ experience working with vulnerable or looked-after children in an education setting.
Ability to liaise effectively with Virtual Schools, education providers and Local Authority teams.
Ability to provide educational advice and support to foster carers.
Experience working to targets and performance indicators.
Desirable:
Relevant Level 3 or 4 qualification (NVQ or Degree).
Ability to collect and interpret young person-level educational data.
