About Home-Start UK
Home-Start is a federated charity made up of over 160 local Home-Starts rooted in communities across the UK. Together, they form a national movement for change that helps babies and young children grow up in safe, supportive homes, with better opportunities for the future. Last year, the Home-Start network supported 75,500 children in 58,850 families, thanks to dedicated local trustees and staff and nearly 9,000 volunteers. At the heart of this movement is Home-Start UK, the national body that supports local Home-Starts by providing leadership, expertise, resources and a shared voice, drawing on the lived experience of local staff, volunteers and families.
About The Role
As Director of Network Impact at Home-Start UK, you will work to enable local Home-Starts to thrive and grow their impact. You will play a vital leadership role at Home-Start UK and across the network, empowering Home-Starts to rise to future challenges. You will further strengthen relationships across the network and turn ambitions emerging from our new national strategy into practical support, stronger assurance and better evidence. For the right leader, this role offers enormous scope to strengthen high-quality support for children and families at scale. This is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic leadership for the network and lead Home-Start UK’s work to strengthen, sustain and evidence the impact of the federation. It brings together oversight of Network, Practice and Volunteering Development; Learning and Engagement; Quality and Safeguarding; and Data, Insight and Impact.
The Director will help drive the organisation and ensure these areas operate as a coherent, evidence-led and values-driven function, which strengthens local Home-Starts and enables them to deliver safe, high-quality, relational and compassionate support to children and families at the earliest moment. The Director will lead work that builds the resilience of local Home-Starts, deepens trust and collaboration across the federation, supports strong leadership and governance locally, grows learning and engagement, and helps local Home-Starts adapt to changing family needs, volunteer patterns, funding pressures and operating contexts. The role will balance practical support to the network with longer-term transformation, ensuring Home-Start UK focuses on the things that matter most and uses its resources where they can have the greatest impact.
The Director also holds a critical assurance and improvement role. They will provide executive leadership for quality assurance, safeguarding oversight, reportable incidents, network compliance, dispute resolution, policy development and proportionate approaches to supporting local Home-Starts that are under pressure. They will ensure that safeguarding culture and high-quality practice are continually strengthened across the federation, drawing on the latest available research evidence and using data and insight to identify risk early, target support effectively, and support continuous improvement. This includes overseeing the development of stronger network health insight, impact measurement, performance reporting and evidence that can demonstrate the difference Home-Start makes for families.
This is also an outward-facing and enabling leadership role. The Director will contribute to fundraising, income generation and the development of strategic partnerships that help Home-Start UK and the wider network increase impact for children and families. They will work closely with colleagues across Fundraising, External Affairs and Finance to shape fundable propositions, strengthen local fundraising capability, build partnerships that extend reach and impact, and ensure our story is rooted in credible evidence, family voice and network insight. They will also play a lead role in developing national partnerships with external organisations so as to strengthen practice and network impact.
Although this is a home-working contract, the role involves significant UK-wide travel to meet local Home-Starts, attend network events, work with partners and spend time with colleagues. Candidates should expect to travel regularly, often weekly, with some overnight stays.
