The role at a glance
We’re looking for a hands‑on Digital Communications Associate to join Ufi’s small, ambitious communications team.
This role is suited to someone with a few years’ experience in communications or digital content, who is ready to take the initiative, shape ideas and play an active role in how Ufi communicates its work and impact. You’ll have more autonomy than a typical entry‑level role, using your judgement to shape content and priorities, with support from a small senior communications team.
A core part of the role is leading our day‑to‑day social media activity – managing our channels, creating engaging content (copy, graphics, video), and helping shape how Ufi tells its story online. You’ll also contribute to wider communications activity across Ufi, from promoting grant funds and ventures activity to supporting major campaigns and our online community.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to the work, thinking strategically about digital comms, and working collaboratively in a small team where your judgement and ideas genuinely shape what we do. This is a home‑based role with a high level of responsibility, where your work can have a clear and visible impact.

We’re looking for someone who brings confidence, judgement and curiosity to their work, and who is comfortable taking responsibility in a small team.
This role will suit someone who sees digital communications as a tool for clarity, impact and reputation – not just content production – and who enjoys being involved across the full communications process.
You’ll bring experience of managing and creating digital content, including social media, and be keen to build a broad digital communications skillset, rather than focusing on a single channel. The role will suit you if you:

Experience
Experience managing digital communications or social media channels in a professional context
Strategic use of digital comms to support wider goals, for example:
Growing or engaging an audience
Developing and running campaigns
Using content to support organisational or project goals
Writing clear, engaging short‑form content for different audiences and purposes
Supporting website or blog content, including editing or updating pages
Using insight or performance data to understand what’s working and improve future activity
Working in a small, hands‑on team environment
Skills and knowledge
A good understanding of digital communications, including how different channels play different roles
Practical experience of social media, especially LinkedIn
Ability to create high-quality, engaging digital content, including written copy and simple visual or video assets
Understanding of visual storytelling and how content performs across platforms
Sound judgement about tone, audience and reputational risk, knowing when to seek input or sign-off
Confidence using digital tools to plan, create and publish content (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Social Sprout or similar)
Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to balance planned and reactive work
Skilled at building and maintaining relationships in a virtual world
Personal style and behaviour
Collaborative and a team player – sharing information proactively and fostering positive relationships with colleagues and networks
Resourceful in spotting opportunities and dealing with obstacles in a practical way
Able to take a clear, structured approach to planning and organising work, making effective use of time and resources
Comfortable working independently while knowing when to seek input or support

What will you be doing? (Job specification)
Day-to-day
This is a broad digital communications role, combining content creation, planning and collaboration across Ufi. Social media is a defined part of the role, but it sits alongside wider digital communications work. In a typical week, you’ll:
Engage with colleagues across Ufi to understand what’s happening across our workstreams
Identify clear, timely and relevant stories, and shape them into effective digital communications
Manage our social media activity as part of an integrated approach to comms
Contribute ideas, insight and practical delivery to campaigns, announcements and longer‑term communications activity
Take part in team discussion and decision‑making, helping prioritise what matters most and how we talk about it
Social media management
You’ll be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of Ufi’s social media channels (predominantly on LinkedIn), focused on reaching sector, policy and stakeholder audiences. This includes:
Planning and scheduling content that supports Ufi’s priorities and reputation
Writing clear, engaging copy and creating simple visual or video assets where appropriate
Responding to relevant activity in the sector
Monitoring performance and engagement, and using insight to refine what we do
You’ll be trusted to run activity within clear guardrails (brand guidelines and tone of voice), with collaboration and sign‑off where appropriate – particularly for sensitive or high-profile content.
Creating and shaping comms content
Alongside social media, you’ll help create and improve digital communications content including:
Short videos and visual content
Partner or learner stories
Practical explainers and summaries
Simple infographics or visual assets
We value content that is clear, timely and effective, with space to experiment, learn and refine approaches over time.
Wider comms support
This role is about being involved throughout the communications process, not just the delivery of content. As such, you’ll also support the delivery of our wider communications work, including:
Actively contributing to comms planning and delivery across grants, investments, partnerships, major programmes and our annual Week of VocTech
Supporting the creation, editing, and publishing of website content, ensuring accuracy and consistency
Providing support at external events, including sector conferences, exhibitions and networking events
Supporting the wider Ufi team with other tasks as needed, in line with the scope and level of the role
Some UK travel is required, including for our annual showcase event in March (Ufi VocTech Showcase) and to support specific workstreams and the organisations we work with. You will also need to attend our multi-day in-person meetings (usually at least quarterly) which help us stay connected as a team.
Decision‑making and autonomy
This role balances trust and responsibility with collaboration and support. You’ll be expected to:
Propose ideas and approaches
Draft and develop content independently within agreed priorities
Exercise sound judgement about tone, audience and risk
Decisions about messaging and publication are made collaboratively within the communications team, particularly where content is sensitive or high‑profile. As you build familiarity with Ufi’s work and audiences, you’ll have increasing autonomy to run activity and shape content.
Stakeholders and relationships
You’ll work closely with the communications team and with colleagues across Ufi. You’ll attend internal meetings – including grant, project and ventures meetings – to understand activity and help turn it into compelling content. Being able to translate complex activity into clear communications is key.
As your experience grows, you’ll also take part in conversations with partners, grant holders and venture portfolio companies, always as part of a supported and collaborative team approach.
