Are you passionate about the Welsh language? Do you have good, creative language skills? Do you enjoy helping others with their Welsh Language needs? We’re looking for an experienced translator to join Natural Resources Wales (NRW) as a Senior Translator within our busy Translation Services Team.
Reporting to the Translation Services Team Leader you’ll join a small team of translators and lead in terms of how NRW engages with the public and stakeholders with clear, correct and creative Welsh in a timely manner and to a high standard.

Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.
This role meets the criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route. Natural Resources Wales welcomes applications from non-UK citizens who are eligible to apply under this route, subject to confirmation by the Home Office.
Please note that while we may be able to support the Certificate of Sponsorship required for a visa application, the organisation does not cover the cost of the visa itself, including any associated fees for dependants.
The applicant must still meet the UK Skilled Worker Visa Eligibility and Requirement.

This role sits in the Translation Team within the Communications, Customer and Commercial Directorate. The directorate is responsible for how we communicate, engage, and build trust with the public, partners, and stakeholders. It plays a central role in delivering NRW’s corporate strategy, particularly our commitments to transparency, customer focus, and digital transformation.
What you will do
To deliver a customer focused high-quality Welsh language translation and proofreading service.
Translate and proofread a wide range of documents to a very high standard to meet the requirements of our Welsh Language policy and our house writing style.
Lead on ensuring adequate quality assurance of NRW external service, monitoring for consistency and adherence to house style.
Communicate effectively with customers to provide high levels of service and effectively manage expectations.
Apply rigorous attention to detail in order to maintain professional standards.
Maintain an efficient record-keeping system in order to track demand and costs.
Build relationships internally and externally in support of delivering better bilingual services.
Provide specialist translation advice to other members of staff, using sound judgement and your professional skills, in particular in terms of consistency and use of existing terminology.
Mentor and support other members of the team and proactively seek ways to improve ways of working in the wider team.
Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills
In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.
Extensive experience of working as a translator.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and translation memory software.
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
Full membership of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru or a willingness to work towards full membership.
Knowledge of the Welsh Language Standards and related Welsh language policy.
Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal.
Awareness of the Welsh Language Standards and related Welsh language policy.
Understanding and knowledge of NRW's remit, roles, policies and priorities.
Ability to make sound judgement calls, in particular regarding decisions on terminology and use of Welsh language.

Essential: Level C2 - Higher proficiency level
