Are you ready to lead a passionate data team, work with a modern stack, and make a tangible impact?
At AFI, we work hard, we love what we do and we strive for the best, especially when it comes to serving our customers and their pets. We are looking for a Data Engineering Manager to join our supportive and forward-thinking Data Engineering function.
We’ve already done the heavy lifting: our solid Lakehouse architecture is built and thriving. Now, we’re in the exciting phase of creating viable, high-value data products off that Lakehouse to drive critical business decisions across the company. In this role, you’ll get to see the real-world difference your team's work makes every single day.
The Role:
A True Player-Coach, this is a weighted toward management and delivery over hands-on coding. While you need the technical chops to guide the team, your primary focus will be on people leadership, shaping engineering standards and driving complex data projects over the finish line.
You will be supporting and leading a team of 4 Data Engineers, helping them grow, unblocking their paths and ensuring our data platform remains trusted, scalable and secure.
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
We are open to experienced Data Engineering Managers, as well as highly skilled data professionals looking to take a definitive step into management.
The Non-Negotiable: You must have expert-level SQL skills and a strong, fundamental data background.
The Leadership Mindset: You know how to develop a team, prioritise workloads, and collaborate with Analytics and Data Quality teams to ensure joined-up, rather than fragmented, solutions.
The Delivery Focus: You are highly organised and can manage project dependencies to ensure your team delivers reliable data from ingestion through to the published layer.
The "Highly Sought After" (Bonus Points):
Experience with Databricks or similar modern cloud data platforms (like Snowflake).
Deep knowledge of source ingestion and data pipelines.
Experience working with Financial Reporting data.
Why Join AFI?
We believe that to do your best work, you need to be supported. You’ll be joining a highly passionate team that geeks out over a modern tech stack but also fiercely protects its work-life balance. We know that great data engineering takes focus, which is why we cultivate a remote culture that respects your time, celebrates wins, and genuinely enjoys working together.
Ready to lead the charge on our next phase of data innovation? Apply today.
