Main Purpose of the Role
As a Consultant, you will play a key role in supporting our clients in achieving their aims of raising and generating money, using Achates’ distinctive purpose-led approach, in the context of an ever-changing funding and cultural landscape. This role is directly client-facing, held accountable to a monthly target of billable days and reports directly to the Director of Income Generation.
You will work alongside Achates’ Senior Consultant and Director of Income Generation to attract new clients, pitch and tender for work, and support a range of organisations.
Together, you will focus on clarifying intent, strengthening design and approach, and ensuring alignment between need, methodology and impact in income generation.
Our clients are facing an increasingly complex landscape; traditional funding sources are under pressure, audience expectations are changing, and rising costs are forcing companies to do more - with less. At the same time, teams are being asked to demonstrate impact, diversify income and build long-term resilience, often without the capacity, confidence, or space to experiment. This has created an urgent need for new, more sustainable approaches to income generation.
Achates’ clients often approach us at times of transformation, new direction, challenge and change – as they look to new audiences and communities, embark on major capital projects, or re-assess their approach.
Role Overview
Winning and delivering high-value consultancy work is the main responsibility for this role. You will maintain a set monthly benchmark for billable fundraising and earned income consultancy, related to the average number of working days each month, with clients that range from individual artists and grassroots arts organisations to major national and international organisations, across all art forms and locations (predominantly in the UK).
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Research and analysis around socio-economic data, comparator analysis and income benchmarking
• Prospect research for revenue and capital support
• Developing Statements of Purpose, Logic Models and Narrative Summaries of Theories of Change to support organisations to articulate their purpose and impact
• Working with clients to interrogate and articulate their programmes and offer using a theory of change-based approach
