Family Action & this role:
At Family Action we support people through change, challenge or crisis. It’s what we’ve done for over 150 years. We protect children, support young people and adults and offer direct, practical help to families and communities.
We see first-hand the power of family to shape lives, for better or worse, so we speak up for the importance of family in national and local policymaking, amplify family voices and represent the changing needs of families in the UK today.
Relate is changing. As part of Family Action, we are redesigning our services, raising our clinical standards, and reasserting our position as the UK's leading specialist in intimate relationship support. This is a rare opportunity to shape our clinical direction and leave a real mark on how relationship and psychosexual therapy is practised across the UK.
About the Role
As Clinical Practice Lead, you will be the authoritative clinical voice across Relate's national services. You'll set the standards our counsellors and supervisors work to and lead our clinical governance framework. When complex cases or safeguarding concerns arise, colleagues will look to you. When we develop new services and products, you'll make sure they're evidence-based and clinically sound. When Relate needs to be heard at sector level, whether at professional forums, with BACP, NCPS, UKCP and COSRT, or in academic partnerships, you'll represent us.
You'll be an accredited relationship and psychosexual therapist (registered with BACP, UKCP, COSRT or NCPS) with a Level 5 or SCoPEd Column B qualification in relationship therapy, a supervision qualification, and senior clinical leadership experience in a complex organisation. A genuine commitment to inclusive, GSRD (Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversity)-affirming practice matters as much as your clinical credentials.
This role is for you if…
• You are energised by raising clinical standards and leading a culture of excellence.
• You believe in inclusive; evidence- informed practice shaped by client need
• You thrive when working across complex environments - operational, digital, strategic and clinical.
• You bring deep therapeutic expertise and can translate it into practical, scalable frameworks.
• You enjoy inspiring and developing others, from trainees to senior clinicians.
What You’ll Lead

• Represent Relate externally, influencing best practice and sector direction.
About You
You will bring:
• Accredited clinical membership with a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP, NCPS, COSRT).
• Extensive post qualifying experience delivering therapy to individuals, couples and/or families.
• Proven experience providing clinical leadership and/or supervision across complex services.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, risk and clinical governance.
• Ability to lead with credibility, compassion, courage and inclusivity.
• A commitment to data-informed practice, continuous improvement and reflective learning.
