We’re looking for a number of Human Centred Designers to help create accessible and inclusive content, products and services for the people who rely on Citizens Advice. This new generalist role blends content design, user research, service design and product design.

You’ll bring depth in at least one design or research discipline, and curiosity and confidence across the others. We’re looking for designers who have a clear core strength, but enjoy working end-to-end — understanding problems from multiple perspectives and contributing wherever it helps users most. Please specific in your cover letter which discipline you have most depth in.

You’ll work across the full design process: running discovery research, turning insights into opportunities, designing and prototyping solutions and testing and iterating in agile teams. From crafting accessible content to mapping journeys and building usable interfaces, you’ll help deliver work that’s grounded in user needs and our commitments to equity, diversity and inclusion.

You’ll collaborate with other designers, developers and subject matter experts, contribute to our design system and champion accessibility and ethical design practice. You’ll also share your skills with colleagues, support human-centred ways of working and be an active part of our communities of practice.

If you’re curious, collaborative and passionate about inclusive design and you want to make a meaningful impact, we’d like to hear from you.

Please provide details in your cover letter to evidence the following essential criteria. Please make sure your cover letter provides evidence for the essential criteria succinctly.

    • Proven experience in one of the human-centred design disciplines (content design, user research, service design or product design) including applying design techniques and using evidence (research, data, testing) to identify user needs and shape content, products, or services. This includes interpreting insights from both primary and secondary research and identifying opportunities for service improvement.

    • Proven experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams, including remotely and contributing to a positive, collaborative and transparent culture across wider communities of practice. Ability to facilitate workshops and work with diverse roles across the organisation.

    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous learning and developing a broad generalist skillset across all four design disciplines.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is of strategic importance within the organisation and recognised as integral to all we do as a service.

Central to pursuing our EDI mission is building diverse and inclusive teams in which everyone has a sense of belonging. We believe inclusion is a social justice issue - a principle that underpins our all EDI work. To that end, we particularly welcome applications from people we would like to see better represented in our organisation and sector - people of colour, LGBTQ+ people and disabled people. We follow the social model of disability. We will offer an interview to disabled candidates who indicate they wish their application to be considered under our Disability Confident Interview Commitment where they meet our selection criteria in their application. Some of our roles attract a high volume of applications and in some circumstances where it is not practicable or appropriate, we may limit the number of interviews offered to disabled and non-disabled candidates. We will provide reasonable adjustments as needed.

We’re a flexible employer, so this role may suit anyone who’d prefer a flexible arrangement to help their work/life balance, many of our colleagues spend most of their time working remotely. Whilst we prefer a blended approach between a local office, if one is near you, and home we’re open to being flexible on location, occasionally a role may require you to be based in a certain location if that's the case it will be detailed in the advert or job description. This can be discussed in more detail during your interview.
