The role involves safeguarding responsibilities and some lone working.
About the Project
Energy Action Scotland (EAS), in partnership with the Scottish Confederation of Park Home Residents Associations (SCOPHRA), is implementing the Park Home Support Project. This role is funded through the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme.
The project helps older, disabled, and vulnerable people in Scottish park homes, who are often excluded from energy schemes and face unique heating and insulation challenges, making them more susceptible to fuel poverty.
The project provides tailored advice and support to help residents lower energy costs, enhance home comfort, and access financial or wellbeing assistance. EAS is hiring two part-time Energy Advisors to deliver this project.
The advisors will address energy issues commonly encountered by park home residents. For this reason, direct experience of living in a park home is required for applicants. This experience is intended to build trust, support continuity, and ensure that the service meets the specific needs of the park home community.
About the Role
As an Energy Advisor with Energy Action Scotland, the primary role involves providing practical support to park home residents in Scotland.
Within communities supported by SCOPHRA, the position entails offering customised energy advice to older, disabled, and vulnerable individuals, assisting them in managing energy costs, enhancing home comfort, and obtaining information on financial and wellbeing resources.
The responsibilities include identifying households eligible for fully funded smart heating installations, advising residents on energy-saving practices, and participating in community events and outreach activities.
Comprehensive training will be provided, including City & Guilds Level 3 in Energy Awareness, enabling you to contribute effectively within a flexible, collaborative, and highly supportive team environment.
Key Responsibilities
Energy Advice Delivery
Provide impartial, tailored energy advice in line with Energy Redress Scheme guidance
Support residents via phone, video calls, home visits, and community events.
Resident Support & Engagement
Help residents understand heating systems, energy efficiency options, and affordable tariffs
Identify vulnerable households and ensure safeguarding, and duty of care are upheld
Make referrals for income maximisation, welfare rights, and wellbeing services.
Community Outreach
Plan and deliver community awareness events in partnership with SCOPHRA to Build relationships with Residents Associations and local stakeholders
Intelligent Heating Solutions Installation Support.
Identify eligible households for smart heating control installation based on agreed criteria.
Submit recommendations to EAS for approval
Provide residents with guidance on using and understanding their new smart heating systems
EAS will arrange installations and/or manage contractors directly.
Safeguarding & Compliance
Follow safeguarding policies, lone working procedures, and professional boundaries
Cooperate with PVG/Disclosure Scotland checks and maintain GDPR compliance.
Monitoring & Evaluation – Monthly reporting required
Record all interactions securely using approved systems
Contribute to project evaluation through surveys, case studies, and evidence of energy savings.
Collaboration
Work closely with EAS staff, SCOPHRA, Resident Associations and other partners to ensure smooth delivery of project.
Skills & Experience – Essential
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with older and vulnerable residents
Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to tackling fuel poverty and inequality
Experience in community engagement, support work, or advisory roles (paid or voluntary)
Experience delivering community events, workshops, or awareness campaigns
Experience in collecting and recording data, contributing to project evaluation, and producing case studies or impact reports
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritise a caseload
Direct experience of park home living
Competence in using Microsoft Office and handling confidential data securely
Uphold GDPR principles in all aspects of work
Willingness to undergo a PVG/Disclosure Scotland check prior to employment
Possess knowledge of, understand, and operate in accordance with the mission and values required for Energy Action Scotland staff
Skills & Experience – Desirable (training provided)
Experience in partnership working with community or voluntary organisations
Ability to engage and manage relationships with multiple stakeholders, including residents, resident associations, and local service providers
Familiarity with the unique challenges of park home communities, including heating, insulation, and energy efficiency issues
knowledge of SCOPHRA’s mission, values, and plans for providing assistance to park home residents throughout Scotland
Understanding of government and supplier energy support schemes (e.g., Warm Home Discount, ECO, Home Energy Scotland) and ability to support residents in accessing these
Knowledge of fuel poverty, energy efficiency, and older or vulnerable adult needs, especially in a community setting.
