Working Families is UK’s national charity for working parents and carers. Our mission is to remove the barriers that people with caring responsibilities face in the workplace.
We provide free legal advice to parents and carers on their rights at work. We give employers the tools they need to support their people while creating a flexible, high-performing workforce. And we advocate on behalf of the UK’s 13 million working parents and three million unpaid working carers, influencing policy through campaigns informed by groun-breaking research.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced Business Development and Relationship Manager to join our Employer Services team, responsible for recruiting and account managing employer members and Family Friendly Workplaces (FFW) Certification clients and selling in training and consultancy products and services, generating income for the charity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Research and identify new business opportunities and markets
Create and convert a strong pipeline of new business opportunities ensuring sales targets and KPIs are met
Establish and maintain strong relationships with organisations to ensure client retention and further business opportunities, ensuring renewal targets are met and exceeded where possible
Provide excellent customer service and manage the delivery of membership and FFW certification
Keep abreast of industry developments and market trends
Participate in running a programme of virtual and face-to-face Working Families employer events
Deliver employer-focused services, e.g. FFW certification, policy reviews, Best Practice Awards, Top Employers Benchmark, National Work Life Week, and other employer campaigns
Contribute to the development of employer products, services, and resources
Present, attend and network at external virtual and face-to-face events
General Responsibilities:
Keep abreast of industry developments and market trends
Participate in monthly staff meetings
Adhere to Working Families’ policies and procedures
Represent Working Families externally to help promote and maintain Working Families’ profile
Support and take part in fundraising activities for Working Families
Contribute to the wider Working Families team, undertaking any other reasonable duties as directed
Essential experience / skills / knowledge
At least 5 years’ experience working with businesses/organisations in new business development roles
A proven track record of success in business to business sales
Passionate about excellent client service with proactive, customer-centric attitude
Ability to cope with conflicting demands and prioritise tasks to meet strict KPIs
Commercially aware with good business acumen and financial awareness
Engaging and succinct writing skills, excellent oral communication skills and experience of using a CRM
Ability to pitch and present services and/or products to generate sales
Proven experience of establishing rapport, credibility, and collaborative relationships with business customers, partners, and stakeholders
Success in working independently and as part of a team

Desirable qualifications and experience
Good understanding of HR and equality, diversity and inclusion issues
Experience working in the charity or not-for-profit sector
Educated to degree level
